Crazy Taxi Reveal Teased With 5-Second Clip on Social Media

Sega is nearing a reveal of its rebooted Crazy Taxi game. The company recently posted a short, 5-second video on social media showing taxi lights reflected on a windshield, hinting at the classic convertible cars players will drive.

So far, Sega hasn’t said anything else about Crazy Taxi, and the recent video doesn’t include any extra information. However, with several gaming events happening in early June, it’s possible Sega is hinting that we’ll soon get a proper look at the Crazy Taxi reboot.

Sega first announced a new Crazy Taxi game in 2023, but hasn’t shared much information since. They recently revealed in February 2024 that this will be a large-scale, high-quality game – a full ‘AAA’ release – and that their Sapporo Studio is helping to develop it.

As a gamer, I’m really excited to hear more about what Sega’s Sapporo Studio is working on! Their president, Takaya Segawa, just let us know they’re the team behind games like Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, working closely with Sega teams in Japan and around the world. And get this – they’re also helping to bring back Crazy Taxi with a brand new version of the arcade classic! That’s awesome news.

Currently, our studio doesn’t have any games it’s created entirely on its own, but we plan to start developing our own titles in the future.

That same year, Sega revealed through job postings that the new Crazy Taxi game will feature a completely open world and allow players to experience a massively multiplayer environment. Sources also suggest the game will take place in a fictional city modeled after those on the US West Coast, aiming for a balance between realistic visuals and a vibrant, theme park-like atmosphere.

There are reports that the new Crazy Taxi game will include a large-scale survival mode for 100 players, similar to popular online games like Fortnite. Sega is also planning to add ongoing content with live events, partnerships, and ways for players to customize their experience.

The Crazy Taxi series began as an arcade game in 1999. A year later, it came to home consoles with the Dreamcast, becoming the third best-selling game on that system in the US. It then expanded to PlayStation 2, GameCube, and PC, and later saw sequels released on Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and PSP.

In Crazy Taxi, you play as a cab driver whose main goal is to earn money by picking up and quickly dropping off passengers around the city. Because of the tight time limits, players are motivated to drive fast, take risky routes, and even perform stunts. The faster and more exciting the ride, the bigger the tip you receive!
