Dale Earnhardt Jr. Details Bond With Kyle Busch in Wake of His Death

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is grieving the loss of a newfound friend.

It’s just heartbreaking to think about. I always admired the relationship between the late driver and Kyle Busch. It was clear they had a really special connection, and it’s so sad to hear about his passing after a short illness, especially at just 41. His family announced it on May 21st, and it’s a huge loss for all of us fans.

As someone who’s seen a lot of partnerships, both personally and professionally, I can tell you communication is everything. My husband, Kyle, and I definitely went through a tough patch for years, but we were smart enough to sit down and really talk things through. He actually initiated it, having a conversation with me on his tour bus about how we each ran our racing teams. It was a real turning point – understanding each other’s approaches made all the difference.

Although Dale retired from NASCAR in 2017, he was happy to improve his relationship with the two-time Cup Series champion after years of rivalry both on and off the racetrack. However, he said it was Kyle who initially reached out and started building their friendship.

He really made it happen,” he said. “We also did some interviews and talked about the funny things we used to do to each other years ago.

Dale mentioned he was planning to meet with Kyle, who shares 11-year-old Brexton and 4-year-old Lennix with his wife, Samantha Busch, to discuss a new collaboration. They both liked the idea of their previously competing fans having to support them together.

Now, though, he is reflecting on his late friend’s legacy.

Dale shared that Kyle was truly one of the best drivers NASCAR has ever seen, and that’s undeniable. More importantly, he emphasized that Kyle was a loving father, husband, brother, son, and friend to so many people, expressing his deep sympathy for the Busch family.

He admitted he couldn’t understand why this had happened, but he was grateful for the friendship they had shared.
