DC Just Proved Superman Can Beat the Hulk (But Not How You Think)

While the Hulk is known as one of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe, Superman has a surprising method for stopping him. In the recent crossover event, Marvel/DC: Spider-Man/Superman #1, the heroes and villains of Marvel and DC face a common enemy: uncontrollable rage, embodied by the Hulk. Luckily, Superman doesn’t need to rely on brute force or superpowers to defeat the Hulk; he has a different approach entirely.

Superman Uses Empathy To Stop the Hulk at His Worst

The story “Identity War” in Marvel/DC: Spider-Man/Superman #1, written by Johns and Frank, starts right in the middle of the action with heroes and villains alike overcome by intense anger. Mysterio, with help from Saturn Queen, has obtained a Red Lantern Power Battery and transformed the Hulk into a transmitter, broadcasting waves of rage across the globe. However, Superman and a small group of heroes have resisted the anger and are now teaming up to find a solution.

Seeing the widespread destruction, Superman knew he had to calm the Hulk. He quickly directed the other heroes towards the massive leviathan causing the problem. Although the Hulk was wildly out of control, the Thing from the Fantastic Four was able to restrain him. Superman then approached the Hulk and began speaking, patiently trying to reason with the enraged giant. Eventually, Superman’s words broke through, and the Hulk’s fury faded, leaving only Bruce Banner. With the Hulk contained, the wave of rage sweeping the world vanished, and peace was restored.

Superman’s Greatest Strength Has Always Been His Heart

Look, as a huge Superman fan, I always want to believe he could take on anyone, even the Hulk. But this isn’t about who’s stronger, or a big flashy fight. It’s a story about realizing that sometimes, the best solution isn’t punching harder. It’s about connecting with people, especially when they’re hurting. Superman understood the Hulk wasn’t just a threat, he was someone in pain, and that’s when empathy and compassion really matter. It showed me that offering understanding is often the most powerful thing you can do.

This isn’t your typical superhero fight, but it works perfectly. Superman easily could have used force, but he realized that wouldn’t solve anything – it would just continue the conflict. Instead, he helped Batman calm down, and then the rest of the world followed suit. It’s not the most exciting resolution, but it teaches a valuable lesson. Perhaps if we all acted like Superman, we could find a way to stop the cycle of anger in our own lives.
