As a huge fan of both DC and Sonic, I was thrilled when they first teamed up in 2025 with the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog comic! It was a brilliant way to bring these two very different worlds together, especially when they had to fight off an invasion by Darkseid. What I loved most was seeing how well the characters meshed and the incredible team-ups it created – both DC and Sonic fans were buzzing! It really felt like one of the best crossovers ever, so it was only a matter of time before they did another one. Now, DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion #1 is here, and it’s delivering that same crossover magic. It’s a perfect entry point for anyone new to either franchise, and a fantastic read for those of us who loved the first series.
2026 has seen some amazing team-ups, like the Superman and Spider-Man comics, so expectations were high for this one. Thankfully, the first issue delivers! It’s a fantastic start and suggests the Justice League and Sonic are going to create something truly special.

Flynn Gives Readers Almost Everything They Could Want From a Crossover Comic
I was really surprised by how good the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog comic was, and that’s all thanks to Ian Flynn. He’s been writing Sonic comics for years, so he clearly knows the characters and world inside and out. I wasn’t sure how he’d blend that with the Justice League, but he absolutely nailed it in this first issue. He expertly brings the characters together, showing how they connect, and introduces a compelling mystery: someone has created portals between the two worlds, allowing travel back and forth, which sets up the main storyline.
Even though this comic continues a previous story and combines characters from different series, it’s very welcoming to new readers. The original series was praised for its clever team-ups, and this first issue continues that tradition. If you missed the first series but were curious, this is a great place to start – it provides just enough background information without being overwhelming. What really makes this comic shine is the engaging interaction between the characters. While the central mystery – who built the gates? – isn’t very complex and the issue itself is fairly straightforward, it’s a fun and promising start that sets the stage for exciting battles ahead.
Bryce Thomas’s Art Sells Every Scene Beautifully

Sonic the Hedgehog is a long-standing and visually dynamic character in gaming, and his comics have always reflected that energy. They successfully capture Sonic’s signature attitude and deliver the fast-paced action fans love. This new issue, spearheaded by veteran artist Adam Bryce Thomas, starts strong with an exciting team-up between Sonic and the Flash, and continues to deliver from there.
The artwork is beautifully fluid and richly detailed. While this issue doesn’t feature many action sequences, the ones included are visually stunning. What truly makes this issue stand out is the excellent character work – the script is funny, and the expressive art style enhances the humor perfectly. Bryce Thomas’s art gives the DC Multiverse a unique manga-inspired energy, really bringing these characters to life. Based on this issue, I’m excited to see the larger conflict hinted at unfold and how Thomas will depict it. I would have enjoyed a bit more action, but the art is consistently fantastic.
The first issue of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: The Metal Legion is a really fun crossover comic. While it’s not flawless, it’s so engaging that you won’t mind the relatively simple plot. It’s a great starting point for new readers and will also please existing fans. With so many exciting crossovers planned for 2026, this one is shaping up to be something special, and I’m eager to see what happens next.
