Behaviour Interactive, the company known for the horror game Dead by Daylight, has announced it has reduced its workforce. While the exact number of employees affected isn’t known, a spokesperson told Game Developer that the cuts focused on roles related to mobile and more casual game development. The company cited a decrease in demand for these types of projects as the reason.
Behaviour Interactive has historically worked with other companies on game development. Recently, however, there’s been less demand for their services on mobile and more casual game projects, according to a company spokesperson.
With our current projects wrapping up and no similar opportunities on the horizon, we’ve made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce. We deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of those affected employees, who have played a vital role in building Behaviour and serving our partners.
The layoffs are happening shortly after the company bought the studio that created 7 Days to Die. Although the financial details of the purchase haven’t been made public, the company previously highlighted the game’s success, stating it had sold over 20 million copies.
It’s been a rough week for gaming news, honestly. I just heard that Iron Galaxy Studios had layoffs, and it sounds like it’s pretty significant – reports say as many as 90 people could be affected. It’s always sad to see talented people lose their jobs.
Iron Galaxy Studios announced today that they are reducing the size of their team. Unfortunately, this means some valued employees are losing their jobs as the studio restructures to adapt to the current video game market. The studio expressed deep regret over these losses and stated they are making necessary changes to move forward.
Polyarc Games, the creators of the VR game Moss, also announced layoffs this month. The company stated they had to drastically reduce their team size and expressed gratitude to those affected for their contributions.
There have been reports that Leenzee, the developer of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, recently had layoffs. Although the studio hasn’t officially confirmed this, it seems they were disappointed with how the game was received, and as a result, the entire development team was let go.
Epic Games recently announced it was laying off over 1,000 employees. CEO Tim Sweeney explained that a decrease in players for Fortnite led to the company spending more money than it was earning. To address this, they’re making significant cuts, including these layoffs, and reducing costs in areas like contracts and marketing, totaling over $500 million. These changes are intended to stabilize the company financially.
Sweeney explained that they’ve faced many challenges early on, but these are starting to pay off, not just for them, but for all developers as well.
Okay, so here’s the plan as I understand it: we need to keep making Fortnite amazing with cool new stuff every season – think awesome gameplay, a gripping story, and epic live events. We’re also leveling up the tools for creators, making them more stable and powerful as we move from Unreal Engine 5 and UEFN to the even more advanced Unreal Engine 6. And get this – Epic is gearing up for a massive launch of the next generation of everything towards the end of the year! It’s going to be huge!
