With current events constantly in the news, the first images have been released for Steven Moffat’s upcoming drama, appropriately named ‘Number 10,’ which is set inside the British Prime Minister’s residence.
We’re getting our first look at Rafe Spall (from Black Mirror) as the Prime Minister, pictured outside the famous door of 10 Downing Street. Katherine Kelly, known from Coronation Street, plays the Chief of Staff and is seen petting the official Downing Street cat, who’s also known as the Chief Mouser, while sitting by the window.
Jenna Coleman, known for her role in Doctor Who, plays the Deputy Chief of Staff and is shown relaxing in a black armchair while using her phone.
This new drama unfolds in a uniquely chaotic house: the Prime Minister lives in the attic, there’s a coffee shop in the basement, and the rest of the home is filled with complicated love stories, urgent problems, and painful disappointments. It’s a historical house, famous for its mice and, surprisingly, a nuclear weapon, and it’s a place where even a bad hangover could have global consequences.

The story won’t focus on specific governments or political parties, but the challenges the characters face will feel very real. Once a major crisis happens, details about who’s in charge become less important.
This show takes you inside a building and introduces you to all who inhabit it – not just those in power, like the Prime Minister, but everyone else too. You’ll meet the cafe owner convinced of hidden truths, the long-suffering lift repairman, and the intensely driven staffers scrambling for any space they can get. And don’t forget the building’s resident cat!

This drama explores the inner workings of 10 Downing Street, the heart of British power. It shows how past decisions have led to the current challenges facing the nation, and suggests that finding solutions also lies within those same walls.
This series is created by Moffat, who is famous for writing Sherlock and leading Doctor Who from 2010 to 2017.
When the cast was announced, writer Steven Moffat explained that he’s always been fascinated by iconic doors – like those of the TARDIS and 221B Baker Street. He was thrilled to finally write about the inner workings of Number 10 Downing Street, calling it a ‘mad house within a mad house,’ and said the research was a lot of fun.

While many countries are governed from grand palaces, Britain is run from a surprisingly modest brick street with a distinctive black door. For anyone looking for the perfect setting for a workplace comedy-drama, this is it. And the actors involved are truly exceptional.
It’s wonderful to be working with Jenna Coleman, a fantastic friend and former co-star, and Katherine Kelly, who was brilliant in the ‘Doctor Who’ series ‘Class’. I’m also thrilled to finally be collaborating with the incredibly talented Rafe Spall, and I’m casting him as the Prime Minister. I think Britain will be in good hands with him in charge.
Ben Palmer, who recently directed the ITV comedy-drama Douglas Is Cancelled with Steven Moffat, will direct the new series. The release date will be announced soon.
Number 10 will air on Channel 4.
