EA Releases Free Download for Its Biggest Game

EA is letting gamers try out its most popular game for free this weekend. You can play the full game until May 17th, but it’s a temporary download, not a permanent one. If you decide you like it, the game is currently on sale for $38.49 – a $31.50 discount from its regular price of $69.99.

For a limited time, Xbox Series X and S owners can download and play Battlefield 6 for free until May 17th. This includes both the story campaign and online multiplayer. While the battle royale mode, Redesec, is already free to play, this offer is exclusive to Xbox and isn’t available on PC or PlayStation 5.

2025’s Best-Selling Game

In 2025, Battlefield 6 achieved a major milestone: it was the best-selling game of the year – a first for the series. It wasn’t just a commercial success, becoming the highest-selling Battlefield game ever, but also a critical one, earning an 83 on Metacritic. Our review team agreed, awarding it 4 out of 5 stars and calling it the best Battlefield game in years.

There’s no limit to how much you can play the multiplayer in Battlefield 6, so you can enjoy it for as long as you like until the weekend is over. The single-player campaign is also manageable, taking around five hours to finish, and a bit longer if you aim to complete everything. Like previous Battlefield games, the campaign isn’t particularly lengthy.

Currently, you can’t play Battlefield 6 through any subscription service like EA Play or Xbox Game Pass. However, it’s expected to be added to EA Play in the next few months, which will also make it available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. There’s no confirmed date for its arrival on EA Play just yet. Usually, EA games become available on these services about six months after they launch, and in this case, that period has already passed.
