The teen drama Euphoria, which ran from 2019 to 2022, was highly praised and won Emmy Awards for its stars, Zendaya and Colman Domingo, during its first two seasons.
The third season of the popular show finally arrives on Sky Atlantic on April 13th, but early reviews are more varied than expected. Critics who’ve previewed the first three episodes don’t seem to be as enthusiastic this time.
The latest season continues the story of Rue, a young woman battling addiction, along with her close friend Lexi and their group of former high school classmates – Jules, Cassie, and Nate. It takes place four years after the events of the previous season.
Nate and Cassie are tying the knot, as she earns a living creating popular online content. Elsewhere, Jules is focusing on her art studies, and Rue is trying to pay back a debt to a drug dealer named Laurie while in Mexico, with plans to move to Texas and manage a nightclub.

This season is quite different from the last two, as the teenage characters have all matured, and critics haven’t been entirely won over.
The latest season of the show, created by Sam Levinson, has received a lukewarm reception, earning a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 21 reviews as of this writing. This is the lowest score the show has ever received, especially when compared to its earlier seasons, which both scored around 80%.
Reviews have criticized both the storyline and the characters in the show. Lauren Sarner from the New York Post was especially critical, describing the season as a chaotic mess – a bizarre mix of serious drama and cartoonish silliness, like a blend of “Breaking Bad” and “Looney Tunes”.
Sarner wasn’t the only one to criticize the show harshly, as many viewers felt it had gone on for too long and lost its appeal.
Despite the mixed reception, Nick Hilton from The Independent offered a more positive review, awarding the season four out of five stars. He described it as a groundbreaking show that offers a realistic and honest look at contemporary American life.
After facing setbacks like the loss of cast members, major changes to the script, and difficulties coordinating the busy schedules of its stars, the third and final season of Euphoria is finally on its way, following the conclusion of season two in 2022.
Euphoria season 3 premieres on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Monday 13 April at 9pm.
You can watch seasons 1 and 2 of Euphoria on Sky Atlantic and NOW with an Entertainment Membership.
