Skybound Entertainment’s Energon Universe is launching a new animated team inspired by 1980s heroes in just a few days!
I’m so excited! On June 10th, the team from M.A.S.K. is finally joining the Energon Universe with their very first comic book issue! It’s written by Dan Watters, with incredible art by Simon Parr, colors by Pierluigi Casolino, and lettering by Rus Wooton. Seriously, this first issue is going to open up a whole new side of the Energon Universe, and I have a feeling everything is about to change!

The first issue of M.A.S.K. from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics introduces a world facing growing danger. Matt Trakker is assembling a team of experts – M.A.S.K. – to tackle the next big crisis and needs your help to save the world.
Trakker and his team can instantly transform their vehicles and themselves into powerful weapons, according to the story description. However, Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M. are also searching the world – and even beyond Earth – for dangerous weapons, and they’re willing to betray humanity to get what they want. Only M.A.S.K. can stop them, but a hidden secret of Trakker’s might put everything at risk.
How M.A.S.K Fits Into The Energon Universe, Explained
The animated series M.A.S.K., based on the popular Kenner action figures, first aired in 1985. The show centered on the conflict between the heroic Mobile Armored Strike Kommand and their enemies, the evil organization V.E.N.O.M. Though it only lasted two seasons, M.A.S.K. remains a beloved show for many and is still a memorable part of pop culture today.
Fans first saw M.A.S.K. within Skybound’s Energon Universe – which already includes Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals – in May. Before its release, Skybound Entertainment’s editor-in-chief, Ben Abernathy, described the special as a yearly highlight of the Energon Universe, bringing together talented creators to tell stories that build towards the future, and becoming more thrilling each year.
The arrival of M.A.S.K. into the Energon Universe is the newest in a series of big changes happening in Skybound’s comic book world. Last month saw the emergence of a dangerous threat thanks to the mysterious Matrix of Oppression inside his metallic body. Now, the Autobots’ biggest foes are more divided and dangerous than ever, and their leader is about to undergo a transformation unlike anything they’ve witnessed before.
M.A.S.K. #1 from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics goes on sale on June 10.
