Din Djarin and Grogu, often known as “Baby Yoda,” are about to embark on a significant new adventure. Grogu’s popularity helped pave the way for his own movie, marking the return of Star Wars to cinemas after seven years. After surviving the events of Order 66, Grogu initially trained with Luke Skywalker, but he has since rejoined Din Djarin.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jon Favreau explained that Grogu has changed. While Din Djarin had to constantly protect him during the first two seasons, Grogu now appears much more independent and capable of looking after himself.
Grogu has become more skilled. He received Jedi training from Luke Skywalker and is also learning the ways of the Mandalorians, making him quite special. Now, it’s time for him to start using his abilities in real-world situations, with Din Djarin guiding him along the way.
Grogu Seems to Have His Own Mission in The Mandalorian & Grogu
As a huge fan, I’ve been pouring over the trailers for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it’s looking like Din Djarin and Grogu are going to be split up for a while. It seems Grogu will be off on a separate adventure with these Anzellans. We don’t know much about them, but apparently they’re really good with droids – like, hacking into them. This has led a lot of us to wonder if that might tie into a story about a droid army from the Clone Wars being brought back online. Honestly, the whole vibe of the trailers feels very Empire Strikes Back – you know, the heroes getting separated and training on their own. So, I’m guessing we’ll see Grogu getting some extra skills while he’s away from Din.
Regardless of how things actually unfolded, Pedro Pascal clearly enjoyed working on the project. In a preview with EW, he shared that Jon Favreau is a remarkably gifted writer, director, and producer with experience in both film and television. Pascal had always hoped to see this story and its characters come to life on the big screen, and filming delivered exactly that. He described the sets as incredible, making the whole experience feel like a supercharged version of childhood make-believe.
We don’t know much about what’s going to happen in the next season of The Mandalorian and Grogu, but Lucasfilm has been suggesting it will be a huge story with consequences for the entire New Republic. Many fans believe this will lead to a full-scale war between the Republic and the remaining Imperial forces, and the story will continue in Season 2 of Ahsoka. If the situation is as serious as it seems, Grogu will need to become very powerful to help.
It’s fascinating to consider what unique Force abilities Grogu might develop. He’s already shown a rare healing power, one previously only seen in Rey and Kylo Ren, and they gained it through a special Force connection. During his training with Luke Skywalker, or through a significant event similar to what Yoda experienced on Dagobah in The Mandalorian and Grogu, Grogu could unlock even more powers. As with all Star Wars stories, the Force will continue to be central to this one.
