Look, as a long-time Halo fan, I’m gonna be honest – the series has been kinda shaky lately. A few of the recent releases just didn’t hit the mark, and it’s left a lot of us feeling pretty disappointed. There’s a new one, Campaign Evolved, coming out later this year, and I’m hoping it’ll be a step in the right direction. But honestly, the next big Halo game? That one’s gonna be super important. It really feels like it could either bring the series back to its former glory, or… well, it could be a tough road ahead if it doesn’t deliver.
We still don’t know exactly what the final game will be like, but recent leaks revealing discarded plans suggest a major shift in its development happened at some point. We’re learning more about what the game won’t be, even if the specifics of what it will be are still unclear.
According to Rebs Gaming, a trusted source for Halo news, the developers originally planned a battle royale mode for Halo Infinite. However, they cancelled those plans and are now focusing on an extraction shooter, which could be included in the next Halo game.
It’s interesting to learn they’ve been considering two different game genres recently, but it makes some players question their vision for the next game. A Reddit user shared this information, and the community is now debating what direction the game should take.
One commenter pointed out that following trends doesn’t make sense given how long it takes to develop major video games. They joked that it would be funny if a new popular game style emerged and developers abandoned their current extraction shooter project to chase it instead.
If traditional Halo multiplayer isn’t prioritized over extraction shooters or battle royales, I’m seriously going to be upset – I might as well start smashing my head into a brick wall!
One person offered a more cautious perspective, explaining that many people were only reacting to the headline, not the entire article. They pointed out the extraction mode was last confirmed to be in development in 2023 and is now likely a small, independent project or part of the next Halo game. They reassured others that a separate, standalone Halo extraction shooter wasn’t likely, and urged everyone to remain calm.
To truly bring Halo back to its former glory, the developers need to create a fantastic single-player campaign and story. If they also deliver a classic multiplayer experience with the familiar modes and voiceovers fans love, the game is likely to be a success. Hopefully, they can pull it off, because we risk losing one of the most beloved franchises in gaming if they don’t.
