Inuyasha’s Strange “Cousin” Has Been Confirmed For a Comeback

The anime series Inuyasha surprised fans with its return in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, and now its creator, Rumiko Takahashi, has a new anime called Mao, which also features a supernatural hero and a girl battling monsters. While Inuyasha and Yashahime are known for their action and adventure, Takahashi also has another, less-conventional series that has quietly enjoyed a long run and is getting a new season – a story quite different from those starring the white-haired heroes fans know and love.

Good news for fans of Peasant Aristocrat! A fourth season of the anime, also known as Hyakusho Kizoku, is officially in production. The show is a funny take on the author, Rumiko Takahashi’s, own experiences working on a farm in Hokkaido before becoming a manga artist. Instead of a straightforward autobiography, the story cleverly features a cow with glasses as the main character, covering a seven-year period of her life. The original manga is quite popular too, with over five million copies sold, proving the series has a dedicated following.

Where To Watch This Farming Adventure

It’s currently hard to watch this funny anime series in the United States. While it’s available in countries like Japan, it hasn’t been added to any major streaming services in North America yet. Although many anime eventually become available in the West, there are no current plans to bring this unique, cow-themed comedy to the US or Canada. Hopefully, it will arrive on a streaming service here soon.

Rumiko Takahashi is currently working on several projects, including the first season of the anime Mao. The manga started in 2019 and is still ongoing, with no announced end date. Given the long runs of her other popular series, Inuyasha and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, Mao could potentially run for a considerable time, especially with her dedicated fanbase.

So far, there’s been no indication that the world of Inuyasha and Kagome will continue, as both the manga and anime of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon have concluded. While the ending felt pretty definitive, it’s still possible we might see a sequel someday, and it would be interesting to see how it compares to the original series. Given that Yashahime came out decades after Inuyasha, fans may have a long wait if a continuation ever happens.
