Jack Osbourne Defends Plans to Create AI Ozzy Osbourne Avatar

No, Jack Osbourne has not lost his mind.

The 40-year-old shared that he and his mother, Sharon Osbourne, spent a lot of time thinking about the project both before and after they revealed plans to create an AI version of the late Ozzy Osbourne.

Look, I get why some people reacted strongly to the news, but I want to assure you we’re approaching this with a lot of care and artistry. This isn’t some quick, thrown-together project – it’s definitely not as simple as just plugging an image of my dad into an AI program! We’re using really sophisticated technology here, and it’s a complex process. We’re aiming for something truly special and respectful, and that takes a lot of work and expertise.

The announcement about a new, digitally created Prince of Darkness came just a week ago. Jack, Ozzy Osbourne’s youngest child, and his mother revealed the plans at the Licensing Expo 2026 in Las Vegas.

Starting late this summer, Black Sabbath fans will have the chance to interact with an AI version of Ozzy Osbourne. This digital Ozzy will realistically capture his personality, voice, appearance, and movements, thanks to technology from Hyperreal and Proto Hologram.

According to Rolling Stone, Sharon Osbourne shared at an event on May 20th that interacting with this new technology feels like a genuine conversation with Ozzy. She explained that you can ask it anything, and it will respond as if it is Ozzy, using his unique voice and perspective.

And, according to his family, the digitized Ozzy is eerily similar to the original.

Jack and his mother were struck by how remarkably accurate it was. He explained that, because of this technology, he would essentially live on as a digital version of himself for as long as computers exist.

Hyperreal CEO Remington Scott explained that their unique technology lets the AI avatar, Ozzy, chat with fans live.

According to Rolling Stone, this isn’t a pre-recorded video on repeat. It’s a live performance created entirely from genuine sources, carefully selected and approved by those closest to Ozzy.

I noticed some fans were worried about whether my dad, Ozzy, would have been okay with this new technology being used, and Jack quickly stepped in to reassure us. He really wanted to make sure everyone knew it was something Dad would have appreciated.

He mentioned during the livestream that his dad would have really enjoyed it, explaining they’d actually discussed doing something similar before his father’s passing. He was certain his dad would have been a fan.

As he put it, “It’s awesome.”

For a look back at Ozzy’s decades in the spotlight before his death in July 2025, read on.

Before they became famous as Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Tommy Iommi played together in a band called Earth.

I’ve been a fan of Ozzy – born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, back in 1948 – for years, and it’s amazing to me how he overcame a tough time in school. Honestly, it was his love of music that really turned things around for him and set him on the path to becoming a legend.

In a 2010 interview with The Associated Press, he admitted he didn’t get much out of school. He explained that his dyslexia made learning difficult, and he was often teased by a sister for his reading struggles, which he found embarrassing.

He said he doesn’t know where he’d be today if it weren’t for The Beatles introducing him to music. He explained that music was the primary reason he was able to leave his hometown.

In 1968, he started the band Black Sabbath with some friends, taking the name from a horror film. Their first album was a big hit. He married Thelma Riley in 1971, and they had three children: Jessica Osbourne, Louis Osbourne, and Elliot Kingsley.

During the California Jam music festival, the lead singer of Black Sabbath – known for his song “Paranoid” – wore sparkling snake-covered pants and hugged fans while performing with the band.

Black Sabbath walked the streets of London in style.

The band performed at the iconic Hammersmith Odeon—now named the Eventim Apollo—in London.

Tony, Ozzy, Geezer, and Bill were all happy and proud to display their silver record award for the album Technical Ecstasy.

Ozzy Osbourne readily participated in a darkly themed photoshoot. This came after being dismissed from Black Sabbath the previous year because of his battles with substance abuse.

Ozzy Osbourne admitted in his documentary, Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, that his excessive drinking and drug use led to destructive behavior. He described this period as one of the worst times in his life.

Ozzy Osbourne performed at Madison Square Garden during his Diary of a Madman tour, a couple of days after the now-famous incident where he bit the head off a bat thrown onstage, mistakenly thinking it was a prop.

In the documentary, Ozzy explained that he initially believed the bat was a rubber toy. He put it in his mouth and bit down, realizing with a shock that it was actually a real bat. He described himself as a ‘clown’ for making such a mistake.

Later that year, he married his manager, Sharon Arden.

Ozzy Osbourne, known for his role as the “Iron Man” singer and his signature dark eyeliner, was photographed with a cigarette backstage before a show in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He and his wife, Sharon, later welcomed their daughter, Aimee Osbourne.

Ozzy Osbourne and Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe took a photo together after a show on their Bark at the Moon tour. Meanwhile, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne recently celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Kelly Osbourne.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, married since 1982, enjoyed a vacation in Brazil and are also the parents of Jack Osbourne.

In August 1989, Ozzy’s band performed at the Moscow Music Peace Festival in Russia.

Okay, let’s talk style! I just saw photos of this singer, and honestly, he absolutely nailed it. He was rocking these cool, vintage-looking round glasses, and the outfit? A seriously strong statement – a black and red look that felt both dramatic and a little bit military-inspired. He’s definitely proving he’s got an eye for fashion and isn’t afraid to make a bold choice!

Oh my gosh, it finally happened! Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath! – officially cemented their legendary status by leaving their handprints in the Rock Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. I mean, seriously, to think I could actually stand where they stood and see the imprints of their hands… it’s just incredible. It feels like everything is right in the world knowing their impact is forever recognized like that.

Black Sabbath showed their lasting connection by marking three decades together as a band. Ozzy Osbourne had returned to the group just a year before the celebration.

In 1999, the musician was present at the debut of the Ozzy Osbourne action figure at a toy show in New York City.

The Grammy-winner rocked his signature black leather style at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

For three years, from 2002 to 2005, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne shared their personal lives with the public on their reality TV show, The Osbournes.

It was so sweet seeing Kelly Osbourne at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction for Black Sabbath! You could really tell how much her dad meant to her – she’s definitely a daddy’s girl, and it was a beautiful moment to witness.

Ozzy performed at the Gods of Metal Festival in Milan, Italy.

Ozzy and Sharon attended the premiere of Amy at ArcLight Cinemas in Los Angeles.

A year after a difficult period – Sharon had an affair – Ozzy and Sharon took some time apart. They eventually got back together, and Ozzy later told viewers on Good Morning America that things were going well again.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had emphasized that Sharon was, in fact, the One.

Honestly, watching that documentary just solidified everything I already knew! He said it himself – she’s the only one for him, his one true love! It’s so beautiful to hear him call her his soulmate. I just… I believe it, you know? They’re perfect together, and it’s everything I aspire to find. It’s just… everything!

The famous rock star looked thrilled to announce his ‘No More Tours II: Final World Tour’ at a recent press conference.

Ozzy reflected on his incredible 50-year career, recognizing how much he’d accomplished.

Looking back on his career in 2018, he told Rolling Stone he was surprised by how far he’d come. He admitted he didn’t know why he was still alive after his wilder years, suggesting a higher power, if one exists, must have a reason for keeping him around.
