The upcoming movie, Man of Tomorrow, is generating a lot of excitement for the DC Universe. A key detail about when the story takes place has just been revealed. Superman effectively launched the DCU, establishing storylines that have continued in other projects and will be revisited in Man of Tomorrow. As the Superman sequel nears release, fans are curious about how it will tie into previous DCU films and shows.
Not much is known about the upcoming movie, Man of Tomorrow, except that Superman and Lex Luthor will likely be working together. We’ve already seen a picture of Lex Luthor’s Warsuit, suggesting a powerful enemy is on the horizon. That enemy is almost certainly Brainiac, who will be played by Lars Eidinger and has been confirmed to appear in the film. Recently, another important detail about the movie has been released.
Man of Tomorrow Is Set 2 Years After Superman, So What Does That Mean For Peacemaker?

James Gunn has stated that the events of Superman and Man of Tomorrow will happen very close together in terms of the story’s timeline – essentially in real time. With Superman coming out in 2025 and Man of Tomorrow slated for 2027, this means a two-year gap between the films. This jump forward in time has significant consequences for the story of Man of Tomorrow, suggesting Lex Luthor will have been incarcerated for two years, the Justice League will have further developed, and Superman will have gained two more years of experience. This time jump will also impact another DC Universe project, Peacemaker.
The first season of Peacemaker ended on a cliffhanger that will be significant for the upcoming Man of Tomorrow series. In the finale, Peacemaker was arrested and imprisoned in Salvation, a strange, interdimensional jail. This prison originates from DC Comics, specifically the Salvation Run storyline, which features Salvation (also known as Cygnus 4019) as a planet used to hold supervillains. Once there, the villains form groups, with some trying to break free and others vying for control.
The first Superman movie establishes that Lex Luthor had a way to imprison superpowered individuals in a separate dimension – this is connected to the idea of ‘Salvation.’ Because Superman himself was once held captive in this dimension, the ending of Peacemaker season 2 suggests that Rick Flag Sr. might use Salvation to contain Superman. It’s possible Peacemaker was part of an experiment, where A.R.G.U.S. tested whether Salvation could effectively hold powerful beings like him.
The two-year gap between Superman and Man of Steel creates a problem with this idea. Since Peacemaker season 2 appears to happen right after Superman, it’s strange that A.R.G.U.S. didn’t try sending Superman to Salvation during those two years if it was a viable solution. The fact that Salvation doesn’t seem like an urgent threat to the characters in Superman makes Peacemaker’s role in the bigger story, Man of Tomorrow, feel less significant.
How Peacemaker’s Time Jump Could Make Man Of Tomorrow Better

The two-year time jump might actually improve the stories for both Peacemaker and Man of Tomorrow. If the DCU has moved forward in time and Salvation is already established, things are likely very different than what we saw at the end of Peacemaker. A.R.G.U.S. could have filled the Salvation prison with many more metahumans – both heroes and villains. This means that when we see it in Man of Tomorrow, it won’t be the nearly empty alien planet Peacemaker encountered.
Considering the time jump, Peacemaker has likely been stranded on Salvation for two years. It seems unlikely his escape would happen without being shown, and since he’s the only confirmed resident, it would be odd if he wasn’t featured in Man of Tomorrow. His time surviving on Salvation has probably changed him significantly, so he might be a very different person if he appears in the film.
Season two of Peacemaker brought up the idea of ‘Salvation,’ and the time jump in Man of Tomorrow might be how that concept evolves into the Salvation storyline from the comics. This could be a great way to integrate the planet into the larger DC Universe as a significant element.
