The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville attracted many famous faces on May 2nd, including Nicole Scherzinger, Lance Bass, and Anthony Ramos, making for a glamorous and competitive event.
Nicole turned heads in a classic black and white polka dot dress and a showstopping hat. Anthony, on the other hand, opted for a bolder look with a bright purple blazer, a pink tie, and blue pants.
People are definitely noticing the fashion and hats at the event, but it’s the horse race itself that’s really capturing everyone’s attention.
The Kentucky Derby starts the famous Triple Crown horse races and is known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” It’s also the oldest continuously running sporting event in the United States. The Preakness Stakes (May 16th) and Belmont Stakes (June 6th) complete the Triple Crown series.
This year’s leading contenders are Renegade, the favorite at 4-1 odds, and Commandment and Further Ado, both at 6-1. Renegade seems to have an advantage, having won the Arkansas Derby in March and automatically qualified for this race.
While Renegade has a good chance, history shows it’s not a guaranteed win. Only two other horses—Sunny’s Halo (1983) and Smarty Jones (2004)—have ever won both the Arkansas and Kentucky Derbies.
No matter what happens, you can be sure the celebrities will enjoy themselves. This yearly sporting event is famous for attracting stars from all over the globe, with past attendees including figures like Queen Elizabeth II and Kim Kardashian.
I’ve been so excited to see even huge stars like Tom Brady and Travis Kelce getting involved! Travis actually went last year and said it was a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience, which really says it all for me.
Travis jokingly told his brother, Jason Kelce, on their podcast New Heights that he’d become a fan of the Kentucky Derby, saying, “It was so much fun.”
The 36-year-old, who got engaged to Taylor Swift in August, hinted that this might be something he only does once – or maybe even twice – in his life.
He said he’s looking forward to repeating the experience. He really enjoyed being involved in everything.
