Metal Gear Solid 4’s iPod Returns in Master Collection Vol. 2, 50+ Minutes of Gameplay Revealed

Konami recently shared details about upcoming features for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, and now we’re getting a much closer look. A new gameplay video, over 50 minutes long, from WasyaganaTV on YouTube, demonstrates Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, showing off the beginning of the game and how well it still plays.

The game’s re-release is excellent. It offers beautiful, high-resolution graphics while maintaining a smooth 60 frames per second. From Snake’s updated appearance and the introduction of OctoCamo, to the return of beloved characters like Otacon and Meryl, everything feels faithful to the original fans’ memories.

What’s really cool is that the game even includes a detailed recreation of the classic Apple iPod that Snake uses. You’ll also find a Save/Load menu, and a nod to Hideo Kojima with a special box – though the link to his old blog has been removed. That box feels particularly meaningful given Kojima’s split with Konami, and it’s great that the publisher decided to keep it in the game.

The second volume of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection arrives August 27th, featuring Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (originally on PSP). The popular multiplayer modes from Metal Gear Solid 4 are included, and it’s looking increasingly likely that Peace Walker will offer crossover content, like the Monster Hunter collaboration. Keep an eye out for more announcements and details soon.
