NBC’s Sara Gore Tearfully Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis on Air

Sara Gore is sharing an update on her health.

The host of two NBC New York shows, New York Live and Open House, has announced she is taking time off work after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

I wanted to share this news with you personally,” Sara explained on the April 30th episode of New York Live. “I recently found out I have breast cancer, and I’ll be taking time off for treatment and surgery.

The 49-year-old added, “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying.”

Sara, who has three children with her husband Matthew Miele, was surprised by her diagnoses, especially because her mother and sister had both been treated for breast cancer in the past. She said it ‘made no sense’ given her family history.

She admitted she’d always known this day might happen, but nothing could truly prepare her. ‘You just aren’t ready,’ she explained, ‘even if you’ve been careful and caught it early, you’re still not ready.’

It was really upsetting,” the host said. “I honestly wasn’t expecting that, and it took me off guard.

Even though she’s still adjusting to her new situation and processing her emotions, she feels supported by her family, friends, and doctors.

It really hurts right now, and I know it will for a little while. I just want you to know it’s still painful. But I’m also at peace knowing I’m exactly where I need to be, with amazing doctors and wonderful people caring for me at home. Thank you all. And to my work family, thank you – I love you, and I feel so loved.

Honestly, hearing her say she feels supported just kills me. It’s like, yeah, of course you are! And even though this whole thing is so incredibly painful for her, she’s trying to find something positive in it, a silver lining, which is just… her. She admitted she doesn’t know what that positive thing is yet, but she’s working on figuring it out, and that just makes me adore her even more. It’s like she always finds a way to grow, even through everything. I’m just so proud of her.

One gift that Sara’s devastating diagnosis has given her? A renewed perspective on life.

Back in 2002, while filming The Osbournes, I received a colon cancer diagnosis.
