Netflix’s Live-Action Anime Movie Sees Major Success in Theaters

I’m seriously impressed with what Netflix is doing with anime! They’ve really jumped into live-action adaptations and are making huge waves with series like One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Yu Yu Hakusho. And they’re not stopping there – projects like My Hero Academia and Mobile Suit Gundam are on the way! But honestly, one recent release has kind of slipped under the radar for a lot of us anime fans. The live-action Sakamoto Days just premiered in Japan and it’s already a massive hit – it had a fantastic opening day!

The live-action movie adaptation of Sakamoto Days recently opened in Japan and earned over 400 million yen (about $2.5 million USD) on its first day – a promising start that could make it the number one film in Japan this weekend. Currently, there’s no news about a release in North America, but the franchise is popular, so that could change. The movie stars Fumiya Takahashi as Shin Asakura, Aya Ueto as Aoi Sakamoto, Miyu Yoshimoto as Hana Sakamoto, Mayuu Yokota as Lu Shaotang, Junki Tozuka as Heisuke Mashimo, Akihisa Shiono as Kashima, Keisuke Watanabe as Natsuki Seba, Takumi Kitamura as Nagumo, Yusei Yagi as Shihsiba, and Meru Nukumi as Osaragi. Sakamoto Days Domination

Netflix’s acquisition of Sakamoto Days was a major move in the anime world, as fans had eagerly anticipated an adaptation of the popular manga. Following a strong debut, Netflix quickly announced a second season, continuing the story of Taro and his colleagues who balance running a convenience store with evading assassins. While a third season hasn’t been confirmed yet, there’s still plenty of source material available in the original manga. Given Netflix’s investment in the series, it’s possible we’ll see it happen eventually.

Yuto Suzuki is still releasing new chapters of his popular manga, Sakamoto Days. The series is currently in its final story arc, though it’s unknown exactly how many chapters are left. With other big Shonen Jump series like My Hero Academia, Black Clover, and Jujutsu Kaisen recently finishing, there’s a noticeable gap in the magazine’s lineup, especially as One Piece also moves towards its conclusion. Whenever Sakamoto Days ends, it’s sure to be remembered as an exciting and action-packed series.
