Netflix has a new thriller series shooting its way to success.
Netflix has been seeing a lot of success with crime thrillers lately, and several have quickly become popular on the streaming service. Two foreign series, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole and The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, have been particularly well-received. While Detective Hole’s initial surge has passed, The Chestnut Man is still trending in many countries. A new detective series, which premiered on Thursday, May 14th to critical acclaim, is expected to join them soon. The 8-episode show is already generating buzz.
I’m really excited about this new show, Nemesis! It just launched on Netflix and already has an amazing 88% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, that’s based on only eight reviews right now, so it might change a bit as more people weigh in, but it’s a fantastic start! I’m hoping it climbs the charts quickly. All eight episodes of the first season are available now, and I’m eager to see what regular viewers think – Rotten Tomatoes will be showing the audience score soon, and I can’t wait to find out!
The new Netflix crime thriller, created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, centers around Detective Isiah Stiles (Matthew Law) and his pursuit of the cunning criminal Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel). As Stiles delves into Wilder’s world and his crew’s activities, a thrilling cat-and-mouse game unfolds, filled with clever strategies, exciting action, and unexpected twists. Wilder expertly maintains a facade of a legitimate businessman while secretly orchestrating a series of daring crimes.
As of today, the new crime series on Netflix has only received one negative review on Rotten Tomatoes. Pramit Chatterjee from Digital Mafia Talkies describes the show as a blend of the classic crime film Heat and a style reminiscent of Tyler Perry dramas. He argues that while the series borrows key moments from Heat, it relies too heavily on clichés, ultimately diminishing the impact and originality of the Michael Mann film and creating a confusing experience.
Most of the current buzz around Nemesis is positive. Jasneet Singh of Collider highlights the show’s “unforgettable action sequences” and enjoyable heist scenes, and praises the cast’s performances. However, Singh notes that the Netflix series could have given its female characters more depth and developed their storylines further compared to their male counterparts.
The creators of the Netflix thriller Nemesis are planning a continuing storyline, intending it to be an ongoing series, not just a one-time event. While Nemesis hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season yet, its future depends on how many people watch it.
