New Digimon RPG Reveals Additional Gameplay Details (& Confirms Fan-Favorite Character)

Digimon fans were surprised to get a new game so soon after last year’s release. While a mobile card game, Digimon Alysion, was in development, most people anticipated a long wait for the next full game. That’s why the announcement of Digimon Up, a free-to-play RPG coming later this year, was such a welcome surprise. However, the initial announcement lacked details, leaving some fans unsure about the game. Recently, more information about gameplay and character designs was revealed during a stream featuring Terriermon Assistant.

When Digimon Up was announced at Digimon Con, we learned it would be a free-to-play game for mobile devices. We saw early pixel art and got a general idea of how the game would work. Now, a new 36-minute video on the official Digimon YouTube channel, featuring Terriermon Assistant, has shared more specific gameplay details. Although a release date hasn’t been announced yet, we now have a better understanding of the game’s features and the Digimon that will be included.

Digimon Up Confirms Partner Digimon Lineup & Special Guest Star

During the April 28th livestream, we learned more about the gameplay and features coming in the new Digimon Up RPG. As announced at Digimon Con, the game will have a completely original story for players to experience. You’ll begin your adventure by meeting and training a Digimon partner. The latest video confirms that you’ll choose an egg at the start of the game, which will hatch into your unique Partner Digimon. You’ll then raise this Digimon from its baby form, helping it grow and Digivolve into more powerful stages.

In addition to your main Digimon partner, you’ll be able to recruit Support Digimon to join your team and fight alongside you in battles. You can raise and train these Support Digimon just like your partner, letting you build a strong team. Digimon trading cards and Digivices will also be featured, though details on how they’ll work are still to come.

The new video showed off more of the game’s features and confirmed that Terriermon Assistant will be included in Digimon Up. We even got a look at its cute animations within the game! While we don’t know exactly what Terriermon Assistant will do yet, it sounds like it might be a major character. I’m guessing it will help players with tutorials and missions, similar to how Professor Willow guides you in Pokemon Go.

Every Partner Digimon Confirmed for Digimon Up (So Far)

You’ll start the game with a Partner Digimon, and this video showcases all the Digimon currently confirmed as starting options. The stream revealed the list, and it includes two Digimon that haven’t been seen before!

  • Gomamon
  • Patamon
  • Gatomon
  • Veemon
  • Guilmon
  • Renamon
  • Terriermon

The designs for the two new partner Digimon, Renamon and Terriermon, were also shown during the livestream. This is a good overview of popular Digimon from the different anime series, but we might see even more partner Digimon revealed before the game comes out later this year.

Digimon Up is set to release for iOS and Android devices in 2026. It will be free-to-play.
