I’ve always felt there was something simmering beneath the surface with this character, and while the strange spores from Fort Harmony definitely brought it out in a really intense way, it felt like a truth that was always there. Looking back, it’s pretty clear the showrunners realized they hadn’t quite nailed this storyline, and I think that’s why season 5 feels so much stronger than season 4. They really seem to have taken a step back, acknowledged what didn’t work, and used those lessons to create something better. It’s refreshing to see a show willing to learn and improve!

Considering all the ups and downs in their relationship, especially recently, it’s good to see Hughie and Starlight get a fresh start in the latest episode of The Boys. After finally expressing his frustrations, including how he felt about Starlight’s actions, Hughie seems ready to move forward.

Annie found peace after visiting her father and understanding why he abandoned her. This experience also made her appreciate how important her friends are. When she got back to The Boys’ headquarters, she immediately sought out Hughie, and they shared a heartfelt reunion after being separated for a short while.

For the team to have a chance against the most powerful superpowered individuals in season 5 of The Boys, they need to work together, and Hughie and Annie starting to resolve their issues is a good step. They’re central to the group’s success and often guide them morally, so it’s crucial they get past their disagreements.

Look, it’s always been clear these two characters have a deep connection, but some past issues were really holding them back from being together.
