Netflix has become a major hub for anime, but not every adaptation has been a hit with fans. Recently, the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steelball Run caused some controversy due to its irregular schedule, moving away from weekly episodes. However, before JoJo, one original anime series paved the way for others to join Netflix. Though it’s not as popular as many other shows on the platform, this series is planning a special event to mark its tenth anniversary.
The popular anime series, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, originally aired in 2016 and came to Netflix in 2018. Its sequel, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened, followed in 2019. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the original manga by Shuichi Aso (which first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump), the franchise is planning a big celebration for fans. This includes new artwork, merchandise, a fan vote for the best episodes, and making the series available to watch for free. While details about the anime anniversary are still being announced, there’s a possibility of even more to come!
A Disastrous Life

The Netflix anime series was quite long, initially running for 120 episodes before being briefly brought back. Like the anime Mob Psycho 100, it follows Kusuo Saiki, a high schooler who tries to conceal his psychic powers and live a normal life. The original manga finished in 2018 and didn’t suggest a continuation of the story, making the announcement of a new anime season somewhat surprising.
It’s somewhat surprising that this anime was made by J.C. Staff, a studio that’s recently become known for issues with its work. They’ve created popular shows like Excel Saga, A Certain Scientific Railgun, and Food Wars: The Second Plate. However, J.C. Staff’s seasons two and three of One-Punch Man disappointed many fans who felt they didn’t live up to the quality of the first season, which was animated by Madhouse. Now that a fourth season is planned for 2027, fans are hoping J.C. Staff can improve the animation and give Saitama’s story the quality it deserves.
