Sony hasn’t officially announced anything about this. The information comes from reports by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who said earlier this year that Sony was scaling back plans to release its big, exclusive games on PC. Later, Schreier reported that PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst confirmed this internally, telling employees that these story-driven, single-player games would now stay exclusive to PlayStation consoles. So, while the reporting is strong and comes from a trusted source, it’s not an official public announcement from Sony.
As a big PlayStation fan, it looks like Sony is shifting gears. For years, they’ve been bringing amazing single-player games like God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Horizon, and Uncharted to PC, which I’ve really appreciated. But it seems like they’re planning to stop doing that with their big, story-driven single-player games going forward, and that’s a little disappointing to hear.
What Sony Is Reportedly Changing
Sony has reportedly stopped routinely releasing its big, story-driven, single-player PlayStation games on PC, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. Sources familiar with the company’s plans say PlayStation boss Herman Hulst informed staff that these games will now be exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
Sony hasn’t officially said whether games like Ghost of Yōtei, Saros, and Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on PC. This information comes from journalist Jeff Schreier’s reporting, not from any official announcements that these games have been cancelled.
Previously, in 2024, Hulst explained that PlayStation’s plan involved releasing live-service and multiplayer games on both PlayStation and PC at the same time. Larger, story-driven single-player games would be released on PC later to encourage more players to join the PlayStation community. However, recent reports indicate a change in strategy: instead of simply delaying PC releases, PlayStation will likely stop releasing major, single-player games on PC altogether.
This Does Not Mean Every PlayStation Game Is Leaving PC

Several things remain unchanged or have been specifically carved out:
PC gamers still have plenty to look forward to with online and live-service games. Sony has confirmed that these types of games, such as Marathon, will be released on both PlayStation and PC at the same time.
PlayStation has confirmed that its existing PC games will remain available. Titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War, Returnal, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will not be removed from the PC platform.
Previously announced PC game releases will continue as planned. Kena: Bridge of Spirits, published by PlayStation, is confirmed to be coming to both PlayStation 5 and PC (available now on Steam). It’s inaccurate to say that all single-player PlayStation games will no longer be released on PC.
The reports suggest that Sony is scaling back PC releases for its major, story-driven, single-player games developed by PlayStation Studios. They’re focusing less on routinely porting these titles to PC.
Why PlayStation May Be Rebuilding Console Exclusivity
Even though Sony hasn’t officially said so, the reasoning behind their strategy is pretty simple. PlayStation relies on the idea that a PS5 offers unique gaming experiences. However, when big, single-player games become available on PC so soon after their release on the console, it undermines that advantage.
While popular PlayStation games like God of War and Spider-Man have been successful on PC through Steam, PlayStation’s overall strategy for PC gaming hasn’t been consistently positive. It’s possible that some PC players would have bought a PlayStation 5 to play these games anyway, meaning the PC versions didn’t add extra sales, but simply shifted where people were playing them.
Sony is likely paying close attention to Xbox’s strategy of releasing all its games on PC at the same time as on Xbox consoles. However, it’s hard to say for sure if this approach is affecting Xbox console sales. Reports indicate that some people at PlayStation think keeping their most popular games exclusive to PlayStation might be more beneficial than earning extra money by releasing them on PC.
Which Games Are Most Likely Affected
Based on Schreier’s reporting, the titles most directly affected by the reported policy shift are:
Ghost of Yōtei is the next game in the series that began with Ghost of Tsushima, a popular PlayStation single-player adventure. While Ghost of Tsushima was recently released on PC, reports indicate that Ghost of Yōtei will remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
Saros is the latest game from Housemarque, the developers of Returnal (also available on PC). Reports indicate it will be a console exclusive, reflecting a new strategy for the studio.
Marvel’s Wolverine is the next big game from Insomniac, the studio behind the popular Spider-Man series. While the Spider-Man games were released on PC, reports suggest Wolverine will only be available on consoles.
Sony hasn’t publicly cancelled a PC version of these games because they never actually announced PC versions to begin with. What’s important about this news is that, previously, games like these would probably have been released on PC eventually. This new policy change seems to indicate that won’t happen anymore.
What PC Players Should Expect Now
The practical picture for PC players breaks down clearly:
Currently available PlayStation games on PC will stay there. PlayStation plans to continue releasing some online games – and future titles of that type – for PC as well. Plus, certain games developed by other companies or published by PlayStation might still come to PC depending on the specific game.
It’s no longer a given that big, story-driven PlayStation games – the ones that usually boost PS5 sales – will eventually be released on Steam like titles such as God of War, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us.
While reports suggest Sony is rethinking its PC gaming strategy, the company hasn’t officially confirmed anything. These reports seem to be based on internal discussions with employees, not official announcements. It’s important to remember plans can change, and Sony could still release some games on PC. However, it’s no longer safe to assume PlayStation’s major titles will automatically come to PC.
