Power Ranking The Boys’ 5 Strongest Characters After Season 5, Episode 4

With only four episodes remaining in Season 5 of The Boys, the question of whether anyone can defeat Homelander looms large. Currently, he’s the most powerful character on the Prime Video series, and gaining access to V1 could make him invincible. While that’s a frightening prospect, a few characters have a chance to stop him – especially if they team up. These are the strongest individuals in The Boys. Warning: Spoilers follow for Season 5, Episode 4.

Ranking the most powerful characters in The Boys Season 5 isn’t simple, because the balance of power is always changing. New heroes appear, characters die, and surprising secrets are revealed, all of which affect who would win in a fight. Since Episode 4 of Season 5 didn’t introduce any significant new heroes (aside from a brief appearance by Quinn) or major plot twists, this week’s power rankings are the same as last week’s. However, the potential arrival of a new V1 supe, and the suggestion that Stormfront might still be alive, could dramatically change things. The eventual introduction of characters from Gen V will likely have a big impact as well.

5) Billy Butcher

Currently, Butcher is still one of the most formidable supes in Season 5 of The Boys. However, the arrival of a new supe like Bombsight, or even the possibility that Stormfront is still alive, could change that. While Butcher has shown impressive strength and determination when facing opponents like Soldier Boy and Homelander, he’s probably not strong enough to defeat other V1 supes in a one-on-one fight. He usually manages to survive encounters with stronger characters by being resourceful, getting lucky, and working with his team. His long-range attacks help him stay safe, but he still needs the supe virus because he can’t defeat powerful supes like Homelander or Soldier Boy on his own.

4) Marie Moreau

While it’s unclear if Marie Moreau is physically stronger than Butcher, her ability to control blood gives her an edge in terms of overall power. As the sole survivor of Project Odessa besides Homelander, she can heal, even bring people back to life, and use blood as a weapon, giving her attacks similar range to Butcher’s. Marie has the potential to be even more powerful, but because she hasn’t been present in Season 5 of The Boys, it’s hard to accurately assess her current strength. We haven’t seen how she’d fare against the other characters, particularly after gaining more power in Season 2 of Gen V. She could climb higher on this power ranking, but that depends on her actually appearing – especially considering the recent displays of strength from characters like Ryan and Soldier Boy.

3) Ryan Butcher

While Marie’s powers might be due to Project Odessa, Ryan is unique as the first naturally born supe—and because Homelander is his father, he’s just as unpredictable. Though neither Ryan nor Marie are as powerful as Soldier Boy or Homelander yet, Ryan bravely confronts his father in Season 5, Episode 3 of The Boys. He can withstand a beating that would kill most characters and is one of the few who’s managed to injure Homelander. That’s not quite enough to put him higher on the power ranking, but it definitely earns him a place among the show’s strongest. He’s closing in on Soldier Boy’s level, and we’ve seen how devastating his heat vision is against even powerful supes like Stormfront, suggesting he could potentially defeat his grandfather in a fair fight. However, he lacks experience, isn’t quick to use lethal force, and is still affected by age and the supe virus. Until we see Ryan and Soldier Boy go head-to-head, my money’s on Soldier Boy.

2) Soldier Boy

When it comes to sheer power, Ryan, Soldier Boy, and Homelander are all incredibly strong and durable, setting them apart from most other supes. However, Soldier Boy has a clear advantage in terms of resilience. His unique biology prevents aging, protects him from the supe virus, and makes him exceptionally difficult to kill. The fact that Stormfront might still be alive further supports this. While his strength is comparable to Ryan and Homelander, he lacks their heat vision and flight abilities. Instead, he uses powerful radiation blasts that, while slower, could potentially strip his opponents of their powers. It’s hard to say for sure who would win in a fight, but for now, it’s reasonable to rank Soldier Boy as being between Ryan and Homelander in terms of overall power.

1) Homelander

As a huge fan of The Boys, it’s clear why taking down Homelander is the show’s central conflict. He’s just unbelievably powerful – even without V1, and the original Compound V is only going to make him even harder to beat. Seriously, the guy has incredible strength, speed, heat vision, and he can fly! He’s deadly from a distance, and just as dangerous up close. What’s worse, it’s nearly impossible to even hurt him. While Ryan and Marie seem like our best bets for taking him down – aside from the supe virus, that is – they just don’t have the same level of ruthlessness or experience. Soldier Boy might be able to neutralize him, but getting close enough to do it without getting vaporized by those laser eyes feels like a long shot. After the latest episode, it’s still looking like that virus is the only thing that can truly stand up to Homelander. I’m hoping that changes as we head towards the finale, though – it would be amazing to see someone actually beat him head-on!
