As a huge Resident Evil fan, I was so excited to hear Capcom is working on a new minigame for Resident Evil Requiem! They haven’t given us many details yet, and everyone’s hoping it’s the return of the awesome Mercenaries mode. I recently read an interview with the director, Koshi Nakanishi, and producer, Masatao Kumazawa, in Den-fami Nico Gamer, and they hinted that it won’t be long before we find out what it is – which is great news!
Nakanishi has revealed that the upcoming minigame will be a solo experience and will feature combat similar to the main game. He added that players who have finished the story and are looking for more content should find it exciting, encouraging them to prepare for the challenge and wait for its release.
Nakanishi’s comments suggest the upcoming minigame will be fast-paced and action-packed. The inclusion of Leon S. Kennedy’s hatchet hints that he’ll be a central figure, supporting the idea that it might be a new version of Mercenaries mode. Kumazawa also confirmed that players will need to complete the main game before they can access the minigame. He added that players in Japan could finish the story during the Golden Week holiday to unlock it immediately.
He explained that this mini-game becomes available after you finish the main story. He suggested completing the main story during Golden Week so you can jump right into playing it.
Golden Week is a popular holiday period in Japan that combines several national holidays, potentially creating up to 12 days off for workers. This year, it runs from April 29th to May 6th. A recent comment suggests a new update will likely be released shortly after Golden Week ends.
The developers were lighthearted when talking about the new minigame, but much more reserved when discussing the story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. When asked about the DLC’s progress, Nakanishi simply stated that it’s “currently under development” and encouraged fans to stay tuned, while also mentioning that the minigames are almost finished.
Recent reports suggest the upcoming story DLC will center around Leon, one of the main characters in Requiem. According to reliable insider Dusk Golem, discussions about a Leon-focused DLC started shortly after the game sold 5 million copies. Earlier information had pointed to the DLC instead exploring the backstory of Grace’s mother, Alyssa Ashcroft.
I’ve been playing Resident Evil Requiem – it’s out on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the new Nintendo Switch 2! Capcom just announced that the game has sold a whopping 7 million copies, which is amazing. They’re so happy with the numbers, they actually increased their profit predictions for the year. If you’re curious what I thought of it, you can check out my review!
