More details surrounding Donald Gibb’s final days are coming to light.
Following the announcement of Richard Gibb’s death at age 71, his son, Travis Gibb, revealed to TMZ that his father had been fighting throat cancer and recently experienced a heart attack.
Even though Donald had a heart attack shortly before he passed away, Travis officially listed cancer as the cause of death.
Travis previously told the outlet that Donald died at his home in Texas surrounded by family.
Donald first became well-known in 1984 when he appeared in Revenge of the Nerds with Timothy Busfield and the late Robert Carradine. His height and athletic build led to roles as a tough guy in films like Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987) and Bloodsport (1988), where he starred alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme.
After hearing about Donald’s passing, Jean-Claude honored his former colleague by posting a photo of them together on Instagram with the message, “Rest in peace, my brother.”
Meanwhile, Donald’s kids detailed their “heavy hearts” after the passing of their “beloved father.”
In a statement released to People on May 12th, Donald’s loved ones shared that he deeply cherished his faith, family, friends, and fans. They remembered him as a vibrant and charismatic performer who was also known for his warmth and generosity, bringing happiness and lasting memories to many throughout his life and career.

Donald’s family noted that the actor “treasured his faith and the people he loved.”
He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and by his many fans whose lives he impacted. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for his family as they grieve, and we celebrate the wonderful life he lived and the lasting impact he made.
Donald’s children added, “Our father will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”
