We all know those colleagues who feel like work spouses – the trusted people who make the workday a little more bearable.
Sheinelle Jones considers her colleagues at Today—Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin—to be like family. This close bond was especially evident during the 18 months her husband, Uche Ojeh, battled glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, before passing away in May 2025.
Sheinelle shared in an interview with TopMob News that her colleagues stepped up as family when her husband was ill. Al brought breakfast to the hospice where they were, and Savannah was there to support them right after his first surgery.
She emphasized, the bond people see on TV, “It’s not just pretend.”
The connection between the morning show hosts is obvious to viewers, but Sheinelle – who shares three children with her husband, Uche – emphasized that much of their affection is actually experienced privately.
She explained they handled things privately, adding that while it seemed like everyone was aware of her struggles, she never truly felt alone. People were consistently there to support her with the children and daily tasks like preparing meals.
She also feels a lot of love and support from everyone at Today. As she explained, the team always comes together to help each other.
The 48-year-old is also aware that the close bond is unique—and she’s eternally grateful.

You know, as a lifestyle expert, I’ve always said connection is key, and recently I’ve been experiencing that in a really beautiful way. I’ve been reading letters from people, and honestly, the joy I feel when I try to uplift them is being reflected right back at me. It’s like the positivity I put out is coming back tenfold in their words. It’s become this incredible, reciprocal exchange – a beautiful dance of encouragement and support.
Because more than anything, Sheinelle wanted to foster connection and community.
She explained that while many movies depict the drama of morning shows, the connection among her colleagues felt genuinely real. She emphasized that in the television industry, people often relocate to new cities without a strong personal network, making the bonds formed with coworkers truly like family.
That supportive spirit also extends to Sheinelle’s readers, who have enthusiastically embraced her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom From Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans. She’s been amazed by the incredible response to Through Mom’s Eyes since its release on April 14th, saying it’s exceeded all her expectations.
She described receiving many cards and letters from people during her book tour. She recently took the time to read them and said they were very meaningful to her.

She explained that reading the letters she received was incredibly fulfilling. The joy she tried to share with others was being reflected back to her, and the positive energy she put out was returned in kind through their words. She described it as a wonderful exchange – a beautiful, reciprocal connection.
Because more than anything, Sheinelle wanted to foster connection and community.
People from all walks of life – mothers, widows, single parents, even fellow Northwestern alumni – tell me they feel a sense of connection through my work. That’s why I call it ‘the biggest mom village’ in the book. My hope is that anyone reading it will feel less isolated and understood.
Through Mom’s Eyes is available for purchase now.

Sheenelle Jones, cohost of the fourth hour of Today, has three children: her son Kayin, and twins Uche and Clara. She shares them with her late husband, Uche Ojeh, who sadly passed away in May 2025 after fighting brain cancer with incredible strength.
In a 2015 essay for Today, Sheinelle explained that she encourages her three children to support each other as a team, while also making sure each of them feels individually special.

Oh my gosh, it feels like yesterday when he married Lindsay Czarniak back in 2011 – they were so cute together! But honestly, becoming a dad three years later? That was the best thing that ever happened to him, I swear. It just completed everything, and you could see how happy he was. Becoming a father is definitely his most prized role, hands down!
And now, he seizes every opportunity to gush about their son Delano and daughter Sybil.
You know, as a dad, one of the biggest motivators for me each morning is thinking about my kids. I recently shared on Today that a lot of my drive comes from wanting to provide the best for them and their sister – it’s a really powerful feeling!

Jenna Bush Hager, cohost of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, and her husband, Henry Hager, are the proud parents of three children: Mila, Poppy, and Hal.

But more recently, he became a proud “granddude” to three grandchildren: Henry, Samuel and James.
Holt shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show that when his daughter-in-law was expecting her first child, she asked him and his wife what they wanted to be called as grandparents. Holt explained he chose “Granddude” because “grand” acknowledges his age, while “dude” suggests he’s still young at heart and has plenty of energy.

In 2020, the news anchor and his wife, Siri Pinter, had their fourth child, Goldie. She joined their other children: Jackson, Etta, and London.

Hoda’s former colleague, Cassidy Gifford, is a devoted mother to her two children, Cassidy and Cody Gifford, whom she shared with her late husband, Frank Gifford.
