It’s been a year since we last saw detectives Ruth Calder and Tosh McIntosh in Shetland, and now we finally know when season 10 will be released.
The latest season, with six episodes, begins on Wednesday, November 5th at 9pm. You can watch it on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Filming for the latest season began in April, with Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell returning as the main characters.
The show will also feature returning cast members Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson, Lewis Howden as Sgt Billy McCabe, Anne Kidd as pathologist Cora McLean, Angus Miller as Donnie, Conor McCarry as PC Alex Grant, and Eubha Akilade as PC Lorna Burns, alongside Tosh’s partner.

I’m so excited about the new season and the amazing actors joining the cast! We’ve got Clive Russell, who I loved in ‘The Witcher,’ Ellie Haddington from ‘Motherland,’ Niall MacGregor who was great in ‘The Bombing of Pan Am 103,’ Greg McHugh of ‘Guilt,’ Frances Gray from ‘Vera,’ Louise Brealey who I enjoyed in ‘Such Brave Girls,’ Stuart Townsend – I remember him from ‘Into The Deep’ – and Stephen McMillan, known for his work in ‘Toxic Town.’ It’s a really strong lineup and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the show!
The cast also includes Saskia Ashdown, known for her role in Karen Pirie; Lila Rose from Traces; Joanne Thomson, who appeared in Outlander; Gabriel Akuwudike (Screw); Leigh Biagi (The Lost King); and Samuel Anderson (Back to Black).
In Season 10, Calder and Tosh head to the remote village of Lunniswick to look into the suspicious death of an older woman.
The new series kicks off with a puzzling case: the discovery of a retired social worker’s body, which appears to have been outside for several days. Detectives Tosh and Calder will delve into the victim’s life – both her past and present – and investigate the people who knew her. As they dig deeper, they start to reveal hidden secrets and disturbing acts within this seemingly tight-knit community.
The tenth season of Shetland begins airing November 5th at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. You can stream the first nine seasons on BBC iPlayer right now. The Shetland novels by Ann Cleeves are also available for purchase.
