Sofia Vergara Sends Sweet Message to “Favorite Husband” Ed O’Neill

Sofia Vergara just proved that some TV couples are forever.

Years after finishing her role as Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family, the actress celebrated her TV husband, Ed O’Neill, turning 80.

She wished her husband a happy birthday on Instagram on April 12th, sharing an old photo of them together and adding, “I miss you, Ed O’Neil!”

Sofia often shares her close relationships with both her romantic partners – she’s been married to Joe Gonzalez and Joe Manganiello – and her co-stars. She’s known for publicly celebrating her bonds with those she considers family, both on and off screen.

Sofia explained that the cast drifted apart quickly after filming ended because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they quickly found ways to stay in touch and have remained close ever since.

She told TopMob News in October that they still feel like one big family. Everyone stays connected through a large group chat, and they consistently support and keep up with each other’s work.

In an October 2024 interview with TopMob News, Ariel Winter, a fellow cast member, described the close relationships formed on set, saying that when you work with people for a long time, they become like family. She’s especially close to her onscreen brother, Nolan Gould.

The actress spoke fondly of her brother, describing him as her very first best friend. They met as children – he was ten, and she was eleven – and have been close ever since, supporting each other through all of life’s ups and downs.

The cast of Modern Family, including Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rico Rodriguez, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, frequently reunite and love sharing photos with their fans.

Jesse recently spent New Year’s Day having lunch with Ariel and Nolan, and shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “new year, new lunch with the fam.”

Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy, wrapped up her time on Modern Family with her on-screen boyfriend Dylan (played by Reid Ewing) and their twins, moving on to a new chapter. In real life, she found lasting love with Wells Adams, a bartender from Bachelor in Paradise, and they got married in 2022 with her Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson officiating. She also spent two seasons hosting Love Island USA while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Fiji.

In addition to her other work, Sarah appeared in six episodes of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin and performed on Broadway in Little Shop of Horrors and The Great Gatsby. When asked what advice she’d give her younger self, she told TopMob News in 2023, “Be kind to yourself, cherish the people in your life, but prioritize self-love.”

While Ariel Winter’s character, Alex, went to work on a project in Switzerland, the actress herself chose a more local getaway with her boyfriend, Luke Benward, leaving California for a trip together.

Besides voicing the main character in Sofia the First, the actress has lent her voice to several other shows, including American Dad!, Firebuds, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. She also worked on the documentary series SOSA Undercover. In an October 2024 interview with TopMob News, she shared that she recently discovered her true calling. “I used to want to be a doctor or a lawyer,” she explained, “but now I’m an entertainer, and I can use that position to help others – that’s always been my goal.”

Shortly after Luke Dunphy started at the University of Oregon, Nolan Gould embarked on his own journey. He playfully announced his travels on Instagram in December 2024 with a post saying, “Fell off the Earth again, here’s proof I’m still around!” The post included several pictures of him in different locations.

He updated Ferguson on what he’s been up to, explaining on his podcast, Dinner’s On Me, how he sold most of his possessions after Modern Family ended and started traveling the country in a van. He managed to do this while also filming the movie Camp in 2023, a short film called JOE in 2024, and an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who played the daughter of Cameron and Mitchell on Modern Family for nine seasons, once believed she was done with acting. She shared in a 2024 TikTok that she didn’t think she’d ever perform again. However, her love for performing was rekindled through theater productions in high school, leading her to start auditioning again.

Now, Anderson-Emmons is pursuing both acting and a passion for music. She’s even changed her stage name to Frances Anderson, which is actually her middle name. She told TopMob News in August 2025 that the name honors a longtime friend of her mother.

While she says she wanted a shorter name, Anderson also explained that she hopes using “Frances” will allow her to present a different side of herself and build a separate identity focused solely on her music.

Rico Rodriguez, who played the surprisingly mature Manny on “Modern Family” alongside Sofía Vergara, has continued acting since the show ended. He’s been on Disney’s “Bunk’d” and will voice a character in the 2025 animated movie “Sneaks.” Recently, he shared a photo from a 2023 reunion with his former “Modern Family” castmates, playfully asking when they’ll get together again.

Jeremy Maguire, in a recent interview with TopMob News, described himself as an “old soul” trapped in a young body. He said people often tell him he seems like a 30-year-old despite his youthful appearance, and he agrees with that assessment.

Jeremy Maguire, born in 2011, started playing Joe Pritchett on Modern Family in 2015 – two years after the show began. He told TopMob that growing up on set, it was sometimes difficult to remember the cast weren’t his real family, especially because he was so close to everyone. He admitted he was very upset when the show ended, as it had been the only life he’d ever known.

I was so thrilled to see him bounce back quickly and land a role in all twelve episodes of the Turner & Hooch reboot on Disney+ in 2021! He’s incredibly proactive about his career, and if a perfect role doesn’t come along, he’s not afraid to create his own. He even told me it’s a really healing process for him – he writes poems, stories, and even little script outlines just for fun, ideas he might develop later. It’s amazing to see his dedication!

Before landing the role of Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, Ty Burrell considered giving up acting. He told Good Morning America that he and his wife even made a list of other possible careers. However, the list didn’t include much. “I realized I didn’t have any other skills,” he joked.

Despite having a backup plan that wasn’t needed—as the Oregon native continued his voice work on Fox’s Duncanville after Modern Family—he decided to open several restaurants in Utah regardless. He shares two daughters, Frances and Greta, with his wife, Holly Burrell.

Because he lives in Utah, he doesn’t see his former colleagues very often – he even missed their 2023 get-together at Sofia Vergara’s house, which led some fans to believe he was no longer with us. Luckily, they still keep in touch via group text. As he told People magazine in 2025, “We all became very close while working together. We went through a lot, and everyone still makes an effort to stay connected.”

Julie Bowen, who famously played Claire for five years, still feels very close to her former TV family. She describes her relationships with her co-stars, like Sarah Hyland and Nolan Gould, as if they were her own children, recalling moments like supporting Hyland during a difficult time and attending Anderson-Emmons’ school play. In a June 2024 interview on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, Bowen shared, “I love them.” She also told TopMob News in 2024 that she and Sofia Vergara, her onscreen stepdaughter, have a wonderfully close and easy relationship, saying they “get along like a house on fire.”

The actress is enjoying continued success with her roles in the Peacock thriller Hysteria! and the Happy Gilmore sequel. However, she revealed on the All Good Things with Jason Nash podcast in 2022 that she’s very careful with her money, driven by a real fear of not working again.

Although she’s playfully said she’s taken a break from dating since divorcing her husband, Scott Phillips (with whom she has three sons, Oliver, John, and Gustav), she admitted she’d definitely be interested in chatting with Harry Styles. “Absolutely!” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Look at him!”

Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family made Sofía Vergara a star. Since the show ended, her career has become more serious. She’s been busy filming movies like This Is Me… Now and Despicable Me 4, judging on America’s Got Talent for six seasons and counting, and recently landed her first dramatic acting role, all while being a mother to her adult son, Manolo.

Sofía Vergara received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for her role as Griselda Blanco in the 2024 Netflix miniseries Griselda. She told Laverne Cox on Live From TopMob: Emmys that the nominations were unexpected. “It was a surprise for me to be nominated,” Vergara shared. “It was my first time acting in a dramatic role, and surprisingly, also my first time acting in Spanish. It was a great surprise.”

After separating from her husband, Joe Manganiello, two years ago, Sofia Vergara shared with Access Hollywood in January 2025 that she’s focusing on attracting positive things into her life – specifically good health, financial stability, and a romantic partner, whether a boyfriend or something more.

The show’s producers decided against following Mitchell Pritchett and his husband Cam Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) when they moved to Missouri, disappointing some fans. Eric Stonestreet explained on Watch What Happens Live that after eleven seasons, the producers felt it was time to focus on different storylines and characters. They were likely considering if this particular family’s story still fit with the show’s direction.

Seriously, if you’re like me and just need more Craig Ferguson in your life, you HAVE to check out his podcast, Dinner’s On Me! He gets all the best people on there – not just his old Late Late Show buddies, but amazing celebs like Gavin Rossdale and Chelsea Handler too. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s been KILLING it in stuff like Cocaine Bear and he was recently in this incredible play called Here We Are. Honestly, the man doesn’t stop, and I’m SO here for it!

The TV star is married to actor and producer Justin Mikita, and together they have two sons, Beckett and Sullivan.

Kansas native Cam Stonestreet, formerly a football coach, is enjoying success in acting, with roles on shows like American Auto and The Santa Clauses. He’s also joining the cast of the Dexter: Resurrection revival. In a playful March 2025 Instagram post, the Kansas City Chiefs fan announced his latest projects, saying he was thrilled to be working with such a talented team.

In real life, actor Eric Stonestreet married nurse Lindsay Schweitzer. He announced their marriage on his 54th birthday in September 2025, sharing the news on Instagram with a post saying, “It’s my birthday and guess what I got? I got married!”

Ed O’Neill was already well-known as a TV dad after playing Al Bundy for eleven seasons on Married…with Children. When he was offered the role of Jay Pritchett, the family patriarch on Modern Family, he wasn’t immediately eager to return to sitcom television. However, as he explained on The Jenny McCarthy Show in 2016, reading the script convinced him he had to take the part. He said, “I thought, ‘Damn. I gotta do this.'”

He recently played Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in the 2024 film Clipped and will also be in Ryan Murphy’s new legal drama series, All’s Fair.

For many years, former Youngstown State football player David Cole has considered actress Catherine Rusoff his life partner. Together, they are the parents of two daughters, Claire and Sophia.

Okay, so, Nathan and Haley…they had so many ups and downs, you guys. It was agonizing! But honestly, when he officially became part of the family – when Teddy and Maddie were born on the show? I nearly lost it! He posted on Instagram in 2020, and he said it was the best job of his life, and honestly, it felt like my life too! It was just…perfect. I’ve rewatched that scene a million times, I swear.

He’s been in a couple of short films – Always Come in Second and Nest – since then, but he announced his retirement from acting in a September 2024 Instagram Live session. He explained that being an actor had been a long journey, and he felt it was time to stop, as the entire process had become unhealthy for him.
