A possible price leak for the Steam Machine has caused worry among PC gamers. The information came from a recent, small update to Valve’s Steam Machine source code, and it seems to reveal how much the machine might cost. While the potential price has some concerned, there are a few different possibilities, and it’s not necessarily all bad news for those hoping to buy one.
So, I was digging through the latest Steam code update, and I found something interesting – a system for reserving hardware. It looks like Valve is getting ready for some seriously expensive stuff, like, thousands of euros expensive! That basically means the next Steam Machine could easily cost over $1,000. It’s still early, so there are a few different ways to look at this, but it definitely hints at a high-end device.
$1000, 2TB Version, Bundle, or an Error
Okay, so I’m trying not to freak out, but this price listing could be a mistake, a glitch, or just someone reading it wrong. It’s definitely possible! Or, maybe it’s for a package deal – like the Steam Machine plus some extra hardware. That would still be pricey, but better than just a super expensive machine on its own. It could also be the 2TB model, which wouldn’t be as bad as a bundle, but still… ouch. Honestly, it’s also totally possible this is just the real price, and we’re all in for a shock.
So, I was reading the latest news about the Steam Machine, and it said the price would probably be around $600 to $650. That got me thinking – if that price is right, this leak we saw probably isn’t just for the Steam Machine itself, or even the Machine with a controller. It sounds like it’s a leak for a really high-end, premium package – something with a lot of extras thrown in, to justify that price tag.
Currently, we’re only hearing rumors, but without official confirmation, people who pre-ordered Steam Machines are starting to worry the final price might be higher than expected.
One Steam user expressed their worry about the news, while another said they wouldn’t buy the 2TB version if it cost more than a PS5 Pro, as they already own a good PC.
Valve hasn’t commented on the recent leak or the rumors it sparked, and we don’t expect they will. However, we’ll be sure to update this article if they do.
