Gamers have a chance to snag two free games right now, and one of them is a beloved classic from the Xbox.
Until April 27th, you can snag a free copy of the popular indie horror game 8AM, created by David Gallardo and HeadArrow, on Steam. If horror isn’t your thing, Xbox Game Studios’ Age of Mythology: Retold is also available for free on Steam until the same date.
Why Players and Critics Both Love Age of Mythology: Retold
Launched in 2024, Age of Mythology: Retold is a fresh take on the beloved classic. Developed by World’s Edge and Forgotten Empires, it blends updated real-time strategy features with the original game’s core elements, making it enjoyable for both longtime fans and new players.
I love that this game lets you pick a pantheon – basically, a group of ancient gods – and use their powers to help you in battle, both when I’m directly controlling units and letting the AI handle things. When the game first came out, we had four choices: Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Atlantean. But they’ve been adding more with downloadable content! The latest, Obsidian Mirror, just threw in Chinese, Japanese, and Aztec gods, which is awesome. It really changes up how you can play.
Since it launched, Age of Mythology: Retold has been very well-received by both critics and players. Currently, the game has a Metascore of 83/100, based on 57 reviews from critics. Players have given it a score of 7.8/10, averaging the ratings from 172 user reviews.
8AM Is a Truly Underrated Indie Horror Hit
I recently started playing this game called 8AM, and it’s seriously creepy! It came out in 2024, made by David Gallardo and published by HeadArrow. Basically, you’re stuck watching a family on security cameras, and weird stuff starts happening. The game doesn’t really tell you what’s happening, you just have to figure it out yourself. If you guess right about the strange events, you get more time, and the goal is to escape by 8:00 a.m. It’s a really suspenseful experience!
Players have really enjoyed 8AM, and as of today, it has 106 reviews on Steam, with 82% of them being positive. Since its release, the game has also received three downloadable content packs: 8AM: The Office, 8AM: The Swimming Pool, and 8AM: The Shopping Mall, which came out on April 1st.
This game is one of several horror titles created by Gallardo and published by HeadArrow. Other games include Doll Impostor, Floors, Slashers, Doll Inc., and The Last Stop. All of these, including this one, are available in the HeadArrow Horror Games Bundle on Steam.
Age of Mythology: Retold and 8AM are both free to download via Steam through April 27.
