Most teenage girls spend their last summer before turning eighteen with friends and parties, but Ivy’s summer is different. After battling cancer, her well-meaning but overprotective parents send her to a summer camp she jokingly calls “chemo camp.” Though she doesn’t want to go, the camp turns out to be an unforgettable experience where she finds love and connects with a group of unique individuals who are determined to enjoy life. SUNNY DANCER isn’t a story about being sick; it’s about life after illness – about being seventeen, embracing your quirks, and figuring out how to truly live after surviving.
The film is written and directed by George Jaques (known for Black Dog) and boasts a stellar cast. It stars Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), James Norton (Happy Valley), Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), alongside up-and-coming actors Daniel Quinn-Toye (Sterling Point), Earl Cave (Days of Bagnold Summer), Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co), Conrad Khan (County Lines), and Jasmine Elcock. There’s even talk of a surprise appearance by a famous singer.
