Taylor Sheridan’s role in this Yellowstone spinoff has officially been confirmed.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has become a global hit, spawning several spin-off shows with more on the way. The original Yellowstone series ran for five seasons and concluded in 2022. Now, shows like Marshals and Dutton Ranch are continuing the story, exploring what happens next for the Dutton family and the fallout from the main series’ ending.

Cole Hauser, known for playing Rip Wheeler in both Yellowstone and the new series Dutton Ranch, recently spoke with The Playlist about the spinoff and the continued involvement of creator Taylor Sheridan. Hauser reprises his role as the fiercely loyal Rip, whose strong connection to the Dutton family and romantic relationship with Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) are central to the story. He emphasized that Sheridan remains a major creative force behind Dutton Ranch.

He was heavily involved in every aspect of the project. He’s always supportive, and I think he was genuinely happy for Kelly, Christina Voros, and me to collaborate. Christina has been with the show for a long time, and Finn was also key from the start. We formed a close-knit core group, really looking out for each other, communicating openly, and being there for one another – and that’s all anyone could ask for in a team.

Dutton Ranch is a spin-off of Yellowstone, but the creators always intended for characters like Beth, Rip, and Carter to develop independently and establish their own storyline. According to Hauser, he’s pleased with how things turned out, though it wasn’t a simple process.

It was a challenging process, and we often had to work hard to understand things and how they would fit together. We did our best, and now we’ll see how people react. I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone soon.

The new series, Dutton Ranch, is now streaming on Paramount+. It centers on Rip and Beth as they try to build a new life and ranch in South Texas. But their past from Yellowstone continues to haunt them, as they face threats from a competing ranch determined to maintain its power. The first season has received a strong response, earning an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
