The following article contains spoilers for Dutton Ranch season 1, episode 3, “Act of God Business”.
Beth Dutton is one of a kind. Known for her quick temper, unwavering loyalty to her family, and ability to spot a lie, she’s a standout character on Yellowstone – and that’s why so many people love her. From masterminding tough business moves to acting on her impulsive side, Beth consistently made Yellowstone a more captivating show.
Beth Dutton is arguably the most compelling character in the Yellowstone world, making her and her husband Rip perfect candidates for their own show. That’s why their story continues in Dutton Ranch, a new series premiering on Paramount+ on May 15, 2026. Following a tragic fire in Montana, the characters move to Texas and start a small ranch of the same name.
Beth and Rip’s new venture lacks the strong backing of the Dutton family history, making Beth, John Dutton III’s daughter, an underdog for the first time. But Beth herself has also changed. Though still sharp and capable, she seems more at peace now that she’s no longer solely focused on protecting her father. Notably, after three episodes, she hasn’t resorted to physical confrontation at all.
Despite a wealth of strong female characters, Dutton Ranch isn’t lacking any. Beulah Jackson, who owns 10 Petal Ranch, might be the most compelling villain in the Yellowstone world so far, but her granddaughter, Oreana, is the character who most reminds viewers of a young Beth Dutton. Both women come from influential ranching families and share a similar combination of beauty and a rebellious spirit. Oreana even develops a romance with an outsider cowboy, Carter, mirroring Beth’s relationship with Rip. However, unlike Beth, Oreana has the chance to learn from past mistakes and forge a different path.
Oreana Has Beth’s Fiery Spirit But Isn’t Shackled By Blind Family Loyalty
While Beth is known for getting into trouble and making enemies, her biggest weakness is surprisingly her devotion to her father. She’s a smart businesswoman and realizes her father’s ranch is failing, and he won’t accept help. Despite knowing this, Beth blindly supports him, constantly putting herself in harm’s way – both emotionally and physically – just to please him.
Unlike Beth, Oreana doesn’t appear to be burdened by the same internal struggles in Dutton Ranch. While she carries emotional wounds and relies on her grandmother financially, Oreana is independent and openly expresses her unhappiness with the restrictions of ranch life.
Just before they become intimate, Oreana shares her beliefs with Carter, encouraging him to return to the Yellowstone Ranch if that’s where he truly belongs. Both Oreana and Beth feel trapped by their family histories, but Oreana might be the one willing to break free.
It’s likely going to be difficult, however, because Beulah Jackson is determined to get her way, and she clearly wants control over Oreana, keeping her close. The shocking conclusion of Dutton Ranch episode 3 suggests Beulah may have deliberately harmed Beth and Rip’s cattle. This could quickly escalate into a full-blown conflict between the two ranches, leaving Oreana and Carter trapped in the middle, potentially facing a heartbreaking fate similar to Romeo and Juliet.
Oreana faces a tough decision, and while she’s fond of Carter, she might not be willing to jeopardize everything for a relationship. It reminds us of Beth, who didn’t recognize her true love with Rip until much later in life. The final six episodes of Yellowstone will be exciting as we see if Oreana and Carter’s connection follows a similar path.
