In the latest season of The Boys, Homelander’s power has dramatically increased, and the show suggests he’s now even stronger than Superman. Fans have always compared the two, especially since Homelander is a satirical take on Superman. While their powers are similar, they use them in very different ways. Homelander embodies a much more extreme and villainous version of Superman, willing to go further with his abilities and lacking the moral compass that defines Superman as a hero.
Beware, spoilers ahead for The Boys Season 5, Episode 4, “King of Hell”! The newest episode of the Prime Video series continues to show Homelander’s inflated ego, taking it to an extreme level. It explores the fears people have about powerful beings like Superman – the kind of arguments Lex Luthor would make – but also transforms Homelander into something very different from the classic hero. Although Vought International won’t directly call him a god due to potential public reaction, they establish the Democratic Church of America and declare Homelander as “the prophet of the Lord, the prophet of America.” They intentionally emphasize that he’s “not just a man, not just a superman.”
What Homelander Being A Prophet Means For The Boys

Homelander and Superman were evenly matched during their recent battle in the K.O. comic. While it would be ideal for goodness to triumph over Homelander’s evil, that wasn’t the case. Though he’ll likely be defeated eventually in the TV series, he’ll become even more dangerous and destructive beforehand. And if he gets his hands on V-1, he’ll essentially become immortal, making things even worse.
Vought is framing Homelander as a prophet, but essentially he’s become a god-like figure in this world. Many millions are likely to believe he’s a messenger from God, speaking with divine authority. However, the crucial point is that Homelander isn’t just receiving a message – he’s creating and controlling it. This newfound power will allow him to operate with even fewer restraints, potentially paving the way for him to become President, with the situation perfectly set up for his rise to power.
He’s rapidly gaining immense religious and political power, and he intends to use it ruthlessly, showing no compassion. This is a terrifying situation – the most dangerous position for a villain like him to be in – making him incredibly difficult to defeat. Someone will stop him, whether it’s Butcher, Ryan, Black Noir, or a combined effort from The Boys, the Gen V heroes, and other Supes. However, the cost will be enormous, and he may have already fractured the United States with a war between Supes, Vought supporters, and rebel groups like the Starlighters by the time he falls. As the pastor put it, he’s not just an evil Superman… he’s become something even more dangerous.
New episodes of The Boys release on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
