Although fans have been anticipating a specific character’s death in Season 5 of The Boys, a different outcome might actually be more satisfying. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Episode 7! With only one episode left, the show is wrapping up storylines for several supporting characters. Episode 7 of Season 5 provided poignant farewells to A-Train, Firecracker, and Frenchie, showcasing the show’s willingness to deliver impactful, though perhaps unexpected, conclusions.
The latest episode of The Boys offers a fitting conclusion for one of its original characters, though it doesn’t deliver the tragic ending some viewers expected. Since the show began, fans have anticipated the death of a particular character, perhaps almost as much as they’ve waited for Homelander to fall. However, after Season 5, Episode 7, it seems the series has a different, and ultimately more impactful, fate in store for them.
Despite Fans’ Hopes, The Deep May Survive The Boys Season 5

After the latest episode of The Boys, it seems increasingly likely that the character The Deep will survive the entire series. This is frustrating many viewers who were hoping to see him face a fittingly awful or embarrassing end. It’s become a common joke online, particularly on Reddit and Threads, that whenever a significant character dies, people immediately point out how The Deep continues to live. Considering his past actions – including his assault on Annie in Season 1 and the killing of Black Noir II – it’s understandable why fans want him gone. The fact that The Deep is consistently shown as inept only makes it more surprising – and annoying – when he manages to outlive more capable or sympathetic characters.
It looks like The Deep won’t have a heroic ending. After Homelander breaks up The Seven, The Deep is left jobless and without a clear purpose, likely sidelining him from the final battle. While this could have meant his death, the latest episode suggests a different fate might be more fitting. Not only is he kicked out of the team, but he’s also ostracized by sea life – even a hammerhead shark (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson!) blames him for a past incident. This leaves him paralyzed with fear, hilariously demonstrated when he fails to rescue a drowning man, even while being filmed. It’s a perfectly ironic conclusion to his story.
The Deep’s Current Fate Is an Even Better Ending for the Character

Wow, things got rough for The Deep in this week’s The Boys. Seriously, after getting kicked out of The Seven, exiled from the ocean, and revealed as a total coward, I don’t see any path to redemption for him. Even if Homelander hadn’t sealed his fate, losing his connection to the sea – what made him unique – is devastating. Now, not only is he professionally ruined, but everyone knows what a pathetic mess he is, guaranteeing a life of isolation and ridicule on land. Honestly, it’s a better fate than death. It forces him to finally face the music for all his terrible choices, and that’s a punishment he deserves.
The Deep will be completely abandoned, rejected even by those he cares about. Humans will also turn their backs on him, and he’ll lose everything that brings him happiness and strength. He’ll constantly live in fear of the sea creatures seeking revenge – a just outcome for his eagerness to please Homelander. Both the pipeline incident and the decline of his career stem from his misplaced loyalty, yet even that isn’t enough to help him. Ultimately, his lack of principles and constant attempts to flatter a powerful, cruel leader leave him in a worse position than before. This serves as a pointed commentary, typical of the show The Boys, highlighting the consequences of his actions.
Chace Crawford’s Supe Could Still Meet a Worse Fate in The Boys’ Series Finale

While Episode 7 of The Boys Season 5 seems to wrap up The Deep’s story, there’s still a possibility he could die in the final episode. Xander the Shark strongly implies The Deep won’t survive another encounter with water, and clearly wants to kill him. The Deep isn’t particularly bright, so he might not be able to avoid all threats, and the sea creatures could even find him on land. Although I don’t think this is definitely the last we’ll see of him, his ending will likely be fitting. If he dies, he won’t be missed. If he lives, he’ll have to face the consequences of his ruined reputation—and that might be an even worse fate for him.
