The upcoming PS5 game, Gang of Dragon, created by Toshihiro Nagoshi (known for the Yakuza series), is facing difficulties. Publisher NetEase recently decided to stop funding the project in May, leaving the game’s future release uncertain.
There are growing signs that Nagoshi Studio may have lost the financial backing needed to keep working on their project.
The developer’s YouTube channel is currently unavailable. While their website and other social media accounts are still active, visiting their YouTube page now shows a message saying the channel doesn’t exist. This doesn’t necessarily mean the studio is closing or the game is cancelled, but it’s definitely a concerning sign.
Bloomberg reported last month that NetEase has cancelled funding for their game, Gang of Dragon. Though announced late last year, completing the game would reportedly require an additional ¥7 billion (around $44 million), which appears to be the main reason NetEase decided to discontinue the project.
This is the first news we’ve had since then, and unfortunately, it suggests the game might not be released after all, causing worry among fans.
When the film was first announced, it was described like this: Shin Ji-seong, played by the popular actor Ma Dong-seok, is a powerful figure in a Korean criminal organization operating in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district. The story follows Shin as he navigates the streets of Shinjuku, gets caught up in dangerous conflicts, and forms meaningful relationships that force him to question his life’s direction.
