Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon 2026 that filming for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has finished, according to IGN. They also confirmed the movie is still scheduled to hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
The upcoming Legend of Zelda movie will star Bo Bragason as Zelda and Evan Ainsworth as Link. Nintendo announced this in July 2025, along with a message from the game series’ creator, Shigeru Miyamoto.
Miyamoto announced on social media that Bo Bragason will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link in the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie. He expressed excitement about seeing them both on screen and shared that the film is set to release in theaters on May 7, 2027. He also thanked fans for their patience.
Wes Bell directed the film, and Miyamoto produced it. Bell has a strong track record, having directed popular movies like the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Although details about the movie are still limited, Nintendo has shared some initial photos showing us Bragason and Ainsworth as their characters. There are also reports that Dichen Lachman, known for her work on Severance, will be playing Impa.
Nintendo and Sony Pictures announced in November 2023 that they were collaborating on a live-action movie. Sony Pictures will be primarily responsible for making the film, while Nintendo will create video content related to it.
A recent report from April 2025 suggests this movie could be the start of a three-part series. The report also included a summary of the story, confirming key plot points like Ganon being the main villain and the Triforce playing a role.
I’m a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, and the story always gets me hooked! It’s about this young hero, Link, who’s supposed to save the kingdom of Hyrule from really bad guys. Basically, this evil dude named Ganon is after this super powerful artifact called the Triforce, and Link has to go on this crazy adventure to stop him. He’s fighting monsters, going through tough dungeons, and figuring out all sorts of puzzles to find special items that’ll help him win. It’s a classic for a reason!
Sony Pictures has confirmed they’re creating an animated series based on the popular PlayStation 4 game, Bloodborne. The project is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and popular online creator JackSepticEye (Seán McLoughlin). Although details are scarce, Sony Pictures executive Sanford Panitch has promised the series will stay faithful to the original game’s atmosphere and themes.
