The Rookie Kills Off Character in Major Twist Before Season 8 Finale

Monica’s crooked journey has reached its end.

On the April 27th episode of The Rookie, the dishonest lawyer (played by Bridget Regan) finally got caught after betraying both the federal agents and the criminals she was working with. She’d pushed her luck for too long.

In the episode, called “Dead Ringer,” Monica tries to find a way out of a difficult situation, hoping to start over without losing her comfortable lifestyle. However, both the police and a powerful criminal named Aiden (Tim Griffin) quickly figure out she’s trying to deceive them.

Despite the danger, Aiden offers Monica a possible escape: a plane waiting for her at LAX. On her way to the airport, she asks to stop at the house of her former boyfriend, Wesley (Shawn Ashmore). They share a heartfelt conversation, with Monica explaining she wanted one last moment with him before leaving Los Angeles, and Wesley desperately trying to convince her they can fix their relationship. However, Monica knows it’s too late.

Just when Monica thinks she’s about to get away, the rideshare driver deliberately misses the turn for LAX, and she realizes there’s no hope. She doesn’t struggle, only asking her attacker one thing: “Please, don’t disfigure my face.”

The next day, Monica’s body was found by the side of the road, and an investigation revealed she had been shot twice in the chest, fulfilling her earlier wish.

Bridget understood that while it was sad to finish her four-season role on The Rookie, her character Monica was always in a precarious situation.

Honestly, I wasn’t shocked by what happened. I was actually impressed she managed to stay in the game for as long as she did! It’s a classic case of playing with fire – eventually, things catch up with you. People kept saying she was on her ‘ninth life,’ but I always felt it was much more than that! This woman has survived so much – attempts to take her out, jail time, even near-disasters – it felt like she’d already dodged countless bullets.

When she was finally eliminated, I wasn’t shocked,” the 44-year-old explained. “It felt right. She did really well on the show for four years, and I’m just thankful for everything.”

Even so, Bridget was deeply affected when Monica’s risky behavior finally caught up with her.

I was really struck by how deeply saddened I felt for her,” she explained. “It wasn’t just her death, but the fact that she never managed to turn things around – that she gave in to negativity and couldn’t recover.”

She explained that she always sensed another path for Monica, a potential she never quite reached. That, she felt, was the most tragic part of her story.

As a longtime follower of TV trends, I have to say it was a bit bittersweet watching Peter Krause wrap up his incredible run as Bobby Nash on 9-1-1. After what he called a “wild adventure,” he officially played his last scene as the LA Fire Department captain in an April 2025 episode. It was definitely the end of an era for that show!

Oh my gosh, you guys, when I read what the creator, Derek Krause, said about Bobby Nash, I almost cried! He literally built that character to be a hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice. It’s like, it was always his destiny! And Krause said it so perfectly – first responders, the real heroes, put themselves in danger every single day so others can live. Bobby’s whole story? It’s a tribute to them. It just… it gets me right here, honestly. He wasn’t just a character; he was a first responder, in spirit, and his story honors their bravery!

It’s been a wild ride, that’s for sure! But honestly, like everything in life – the good and the not-so-good – it’s time to close this chapter and move on. It’s bittersweet, but I’m ready.
