As a huge fan of ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are finally making a sequel! Apparently, after twelve long years, filming is actually happening this fall, according to Production Weekly. I thought we’d never get another chance to see those two team up for another time loop adventure!
Fans of Edge of Tomorrow might be happy to hear this, but it’s best not to get too excited just yet. Production Weekly hasn’t always been accurate with its reports, and we haven’t received any official confirmation about a sequel being made. However, any news about a possible continuation of the story is definitely something to celebrate.
What Is Edge of Tomorrow About?
In the movie Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise stars as Major Bill Cage, a soldier who’s unexpectedly thrust into battle without any prior combat experience. He’s quickly killed in action, but manages to eliminate one of the alien invaders before he dies. However, he then finds himself reliving the same day over and over – trapped in a time loop caused by his contact with the alien. He’s forced to fight and die repeatedly, each time starting the day anew.
The movie Edge of Tomorrow is based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Doug Liman directed the film, and the screenplay was written by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. Tom Cruise stars alongside Emily Blunt, with Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson also featured.
Edge of Tomorrow Is an Underseen Sci-Fi Hit Deserving a Sequel
Okay, so I’m a huge action movie fan, and I really enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow when it came out in 2014. Critics seemed to agree – it got fantastic reviews! Rotten Tomatoes gives it a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with 91% approval, and they were saying things like it was a really gripping, funny, and smart movie. A lot of them also pointed out that Tom Cruise still totally has what it takes to carry a big action film, which I definitely think he does in this one!
