Simon Lemay-Comtois, a director on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, recently explained that while the game will have microtransactions, players shouldn’t anticipate a Year 2 expansion as large as the Claws of Awaji DLC.
Currently, there are no plans to expand the size of Awaji in Year Two. The team is focused on creating and supporting post-launch content, but it won’t be a large-scale expansion like those offered with season passes in the past, according to a recent interview with YouTuber JorRaptor.
Considering past Assassin’s Creed expansions haven’t always been popular (like Claws of Awaji), this approach isn’t necessarily a bad move. Ubisoft plans to release fewer, but more substantial updates to keep the game fresh. The next update, planned for next year, will be at least as big as the recent Attack on Titan collaboration. That update included a limited-time quest and a new Isu-focused story called “A Puzzlement,” where players can unlock a secret door.
While the initial reaction to the recent content, particularly the Attack on Titan quest, wasn’t very strong, there’s still hope for a dedicated co-op mode called League. If development is still on track, we might see it released early next year, likely with new content and gameplay features from the team in Quebec.
Rumors suggest that support for Shadows, despite its success, may end after this year. Assassin’s Creed Hexe is reportedly the next game in development, potentially releasing around 2027.
