*Warning – contains full spoilers for all eight episodes of Young Sherlock.*
After eight episodes full of twists and turns, the first season of Young Sherlock ended with the main character, Sherlock, solving his very first case – a case that unexpectedly became quite personal.
Sherlock uncovered a murder plot that surprisingly connected to his father, Silas, who was trying to sell a dangerous nerve agent, threatening worldwide chaos.
What exactly was Silas up to, how did Sherlock’s deceased sister, Beatrice, play a role, and what became of Princess Shou’an, who was seeking revenge?
Read on for everything you need to know about the ending of Young Sherlock.
Young Sherlock ending explained: What happened with Silas Holmes?

Throughout the Young Sherlock stories, it’s revealed that Sherlock and Mycroft’s father, Silas, was hiding a dark secret. Years before the events of the series, he faced financial difficulties and, to prevent his wife Cordelia from divorcing him and taking their money, he had her unjustly committed to an asylum.
He was also involved in a dangerous plot to produce and sell a lethal poison, developed at Oxford University and tested on a village in China.
The British government funded the program, which was managed by Bucephalus Hodge. However, Professor Malick, the scientist who created the nerve agent, betrayed and killed Hodge, intending to sell the weapon to the richest buyer, Silas.
Silas initially aimed to sell his invention exclusively to the British government, but he secretly planned to betray them by also selling it to other countries – to whoever offered the best price.
In the final showdown, Shou’an destroyed Silas’s supply of the deadly nerve agent. Then, Shou’an, Sherlock, and Beatrice tracked Silas down. While both Shou’an and Beatrice wanted to kill him, Sherlock insisted that Silas should face justice through the British legal system.
Despite being fatally wounded by a gunshot, Silas hugged Sherlock, then tragically jumped off a cliff, ending his life.
Why did he fake Beatrice’s death?

Silas pretended Beatrice had died and hid her, hoping to deeply upset both her mother and his wife, Cordelia. He then planned to have the distraught mother committed to an asylum, which would allow him to gain legal control of the family’s money.
Beatrice spent a while growing up with her adoptive family, but eventually, she wondered about her biological father and met him. He, Silas, quickly recognized her sharp mind and determined nature, and began to mentor her.
I was shocked to learn he’d told Beatrice her mother was taken away because of mental illness and that she’d been abused as a result. It felt like such a cruel manipulation. Thankfully, Cordelia was able to show Beatrice what really happened, and it completely changed Beatrice’s view of him – she finally saw him for who he truly was.
What happened to Shou’an?

After finally avenging my village and the loss of my parents – and after seeing Silas fall – a weight lifted from me. The woman pretending to be Princess Shou’an found a sense of closure, and I genuinely hoped Sherlock would find success in whatever he did next. It felt like the end of a long, painful chapter.
She came back to China and, at the very end of the competition, shared a tearful reunion with her loved ones, letting them know she had successfully completed her tasks.
Where did we leave Sherlock, Moriarty, Beatrice and Mycroft?

In the final scene of Young Sherlock, we see Sherlock deciphering a coded message his father left behind, which ultimately leads him to a key. Although Mycroft advised him to stop, Sherlock claimed he would comply.
Things got really complicated when I discovered Sherlock had crossed paths with Moriarty. What Sherlock didn’t know, and I found out later, was that Moriarty was actually seeing his sister, Beatrice! They’d made a pact to stay in contact and collaborate, but Beatrice cleverly slipped away before Sherlock could spot them together. It was a seriously twisted family dynamic, and a huge red flag for what was to come.

At the conclusion of the case, Mycroft admitted he’d secretly held onto the formula for the nerve agent. He explained he did so in case it ever fell into the wrong hands, allowing him to create a cure. However, Sherlock began to suspect his brother wasn’t telling the whole truth.
At the end of the case, Sherlock kept quiet about finding his father’s key – he’d actually taken it without Mycroft’s permission – and this created tension and a breakdown in trust between them.
