Canceled Nickelodeon Star Returns For The Best Possible Reason

Paramount has recently gained attention, especially after successfully acquiring a stake in Warner Bros Discovery, resulting in a major deal within the entertainment industry. Despite this large merger, not all content from Nickelodeon will be included. A beloved, but cancelled, show from the children’s network remains a popular topic of discussion, and has surprisingly found a new audience online. The show’s main character, a young cooking enthusiast, continues to have new adventures and has plenty to be excited about.

The popular show, The Tiny Chef Show, premiered on Nickelodeon in 2022 and ran for three seasons. Although the network won’t be making any more episodes, the little chef is still a big winner! The show recently took home three Children’s & Family Emmy Awards: Outstanding Preschool Animated Series, Outstanding Directing for a Preschool Animated Series, and Outstanding Editing for a Preschool Program. The special, Tiny Chef’s Spooky Stump Spectacular, also received an Emmy. You can see the Tiny Chef celebrating these wins online.

The Tiny Chef Controversy

I’m a huge fan of Tiny Chef, and it’s amazing to see everything the little guy has accomplished! But things aren’t all sweetness and light behind the scenes, apparently. Last year at the SCAD Animation Festival, Ozlem Akturk, one of Tiny Chef’s creators, really let Paramount have it about the show being cancelled. She had a lot to say about how it all went down and how she and the other creators felt about the whole situation – it sounds like they weren’t thrilled with how things were handled at all.

We were really worried about the future of the show, especially financially. So, we released our viral campaign video hoping our fans would help us keep it going. Stop motion animation is costly, but we’re passionate about our work. Thankfully, our fans were incredible and really came through for us. The video went viral, and there was a lot of media coverage about saving the show – we even suspect Nickelodeon wasn’t thrilled about it!

It’s funny, Akturk revealed at the event that ‘Tiny Chef’ wasn’t initially created for preschool-aged children. He explained that it just naturally evolved that way, and his future projects will be different. He originally envisioned a genuine cooking show that would connect people, believing kids are much more perceptive than some executives give them credit for. He felt they deserved better than to be underestimated, questioning why they were being treated as if they weren’t smart. Although a return to Nickelodeon seems unlikely, ‘Tiny Chef’ has clearly found a successful home online.
