The best anime often have moments that dramatically improve the story, whether it’s a single episode, an entire story arc, or a full season. Even shows that start well usually have some weaker points, particularly early on, and can sometimes struggle to reach their full potential. Creating a truly perfect anime is incredibly difficult, but the ones that succeed become classics.
It’s rare for an anime to be perfect, but some manage it right away. Several one-season shows, like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Death Note, are nearly flawless. Some longer series also start incredibly strong, as seen in the first seasons of Vinland Saga and Mob Psycho 100. And sometimes, a particularly amazing season in the middle of a longer series can dramatically improve it. That’s what happened with the shows listed – they were good at the beginning, but really became great after a standout addition.
3) Demon Slayer Season 2

The first season of Demon Slayer quickly grabs your attention, though it takes a little while for the story and Tanjiro’s training to fully develop. Season 2 is where the anime truly shines, becoming a standout series with a consistently excellent story. This season, featuring the Mugen Train and Entertainment District arcs, significantly increases the tension and showcases a noticeable improvement in animation and emotional depth. Moments like Rengoku’s death are incredibly powerful, and the battles against Dabi and Gyutaro demonstrate the anime’s full potential. Season 2 is a major turning point, taking Demon Slayer from good to truly great.
2) Attack on Titan Season 2

Similar to Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan starts off strong and consistently improves. The anime truly hits its stride in Season 2, offering relentless action from beginning to end. Because the season is relatively short, the storytelling is focused and exceptionally well-executed. It’s packed with major reveals – like the truth about Ymir, the shocking betrayal by Reiner and Bertolt, and Eren’s ability to control Titans. The animation is also noticeably improved from Season 1, and the emotional impact is greater because we’ve already grown to care about the characters. Unlike some earlier arcs, Season 2 maintains a consistently high quality throughout all twelve episodes, contributing significantly to the series’ overall strength.
1) My Hero Academia Season 3

While My Hero Academia is consistently good across its eight seasons, the early episodes require some patience, and there are a few slower parts in the middle. However, Season 3 is a standout, brilliantly resolving storylines and building tension from previous seasons. We see compelling development in Deku’s character, and his rivalry with Bakugo evolves through a dramatic rescue mission and a climactic rematch. The fight between All Might and All for One is particularly memorable—a truly iconic moment in anime. Everything about this season is improved, from the animation to the storytelling, and like other popular series such as Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia continues to get even better.
