It’s no surprise that hitchhiking has become less common over the years, and the trailer for the movie ‘Passenger‘ likely won’t change that – it’s pretty clear why after seeing it.
What the Passenger trailer is about…
A young couple’s dream van life trip turns into a terrifying nightmare after they unknowingly pick up a demonic hitchhiker following a horrific car accident. This malevolent presence, known as the Passenger, relentlessly pursues them, determined to claim their lives.
The film stars Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, and Melissa Leo. It was written by Zachary Donohue & T.W. Burgess and directed by André Øvredal, whom I previously interviewed about his film ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’. He’s a talented director who hasn’t yet achieved widespread recognition. His recent film, ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’, which focuses on a relatively unexplored part of the Dracula story, wasn’t released in the UK but is now available on Netflix. His 2019 film, ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’, was a success, and a sequel is in development. Based on what we’ve seen of ‘Passenger’, this new film appears poised for success.
Interestingly, the movie ‘Passenger’ was filmed in Washington state at two different locations: the Enumclaw Expo Center in February 2025 and at a ranch in Grand Coulee in March 2025. This ranch is part of the country’s largest beef cooperative.
Passenger is in cinemas on 22nd May 2026
