The animated series “Marvel’s Eyes of Wakanda,” which was previously unannounced, now has a new release date, pushing back its premiere by a significant amount. The Black Panther franchise, one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most successful properties since Chadwick Boseman first appeared as T’Challa’s Black Panther in “Captain America: Civil War” in 2016, has provided a strong foundation. In the 2022 film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Letitia Wright took on the role of Shuri, but the upcoming “Eyes of Wakanda” series will delve into the history of the Black Panther mantle and the nation of Wakanda itself. The series is now set to air on Disney+ on August 1, 2025.
The film titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” created by Todd Harris alongside Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, initially had a release date set for August 27, 2025. However, Entertainment Weekly has announced that the release date has been moved forward to August 1st instead. Just like the 2024 release of “Echo,” “Eyes of Wakanda” will debut all four of its episodes at once. This means we’ll get to witness the adventures of Wakandan warriors, specifically members of the Hatut Zeraze, searching for vibranium artifacts earlier than anticipated. Each episode will be set in a different time period, with the first focusing on 1260 BC and introducing potential Hatut Zeraze member Noni (Winnie Harlow).
The first episode of “Eyes of Wakanda” carries significant weight for the series as a whole, opening up Wakanda’s world and history like never before. Joining Harlow in this endeavor will be an impressive ensemble including Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Steve Toussaint, among others. It remains uncertain whether a previous incarnation of the Black Panther might make an appearance. Harris has previously announced that “Eyes of Wakanda” will introduce a fresh take on Iron Fist, marking a departure from the characters portrayed by Danny Rand and Kwai Jun-Fan in previous versions.
Todd Harris articulates to Entertainment Weekly that the objective for the entire show, titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” is to achieve something challenging for a movie – creating a more expansive world. He explains that Wakanda, as a nation with numerous zip codes, was primarily about broadening the backdrop of the world established by Ryan [Coogler], utilizing extra time and additional chances at the watering hole. These elements have been present for quite some time, serving to extend the mythology of Wakanda, implying that “Eyes of Wakanda” will significantly alter our perspective on Wakanda and the Black Panther franchise.
The events of “Avengers: Doomsday” will take place a year before our next visit to Wakanda in live-action, with Shuri and Winston Duke’s M’Baku playing significant roles against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This means we’ll revisit present-day Wakanda in December 2026, but the upcoming “Eyes of Wakanda” miniseries will delve into the rich history of the nation, uncovering untold stories we’re eager to see within the MCU. It’s exciting to know that we can enjoy the thrilling tales of “Eyes of Wakanda” sooner than anticipated.
