Jon Bernthal’s gripping, but divisive, murder mystery is currently a hit on Netflix, reaching the #10 spot on their list of most popular shows. Since its release in January, it’s been viewed over 100 million times. Despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences, viewers can’t seem to look away.
Based on Alice Feeny’s novel, the film His & Hers features Naomi Thompson and Jon Bernthal, both recently known for their roles in Marvel movies. The story follows Anna (Thompson), a journalist who’s become withdrawn, and whose life is shaken up by a shocking murder in her hometown. She returns to Dahlonega and unexpectedly finds herself caught in the middle of a police investigation led by her estranged husband, Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal), who seems to distrust her sudden reappearance.
No One Can Decide How They Feel About His & Hers
Although His & Hers attracted a large audience, it received mixed reviews, scoring only 70% with critics and 62% with viewers. The show largely depends on the strong chemistry and performances of Jon Bernthal and Judith Thompson, but also uses predictable twists and shock tactics to maintain interest. According to critic Megan Bailey, unlike truly compelling thrillers that reward rewatching, His & Hers doesn’t offer enough subtle clues to make a second viewing worthwhile. Ultimately, critics felt the show was too cautious, relying on overused ideas and sensationalism rather than a genuinely engaging story, despite its surprising ending.
Honestly, a lot of people seemed really disappointed with how the show ended. I kept seeing comments about it feeling completely unsatisfying, especially the twist – it just didn’t make sense and felt like a trick. One person put it perfectly: if a story needs to explain everything in the last few minutes to make the ending understandable, it’s just bad writing. But it wasn’t all negative! I personally loved how suspenseful it was. From the very beginning, each episode built tension so cleverly – it wasn’t rushed at all, just a slow burn that really drew me in. I was totally hooked!
