Disney+ series Alice and Steve, starring Nicola Walker, has won big at the Canneseries Awards 2026.
As a total film and TV buff, I was thrilled to see the show from the team behind Baby Reindeer really clean up at the awards! They won three prizes: best series overall, a special award recognizing the amazing work of the entire cast, and a student award – which is always fantastic to see. It’s great when a show gets that kind of across-the-board recognition.
Premiering June 8th on Disney+ and Hulu, the new series is created by Sophie Goodhart, who previously wrote for Sex Education. It centers on Alice, played by Jenna Walker, who is shocked to discover her best friend, Steve (Jemaine Clement), is now dating her daughter, Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith, known for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder).
After Alice discovers something upsetting, she confronts Steve, and their friendship quickly turns into a bitter argument.
Disney is calling the new series an “anti-romantic comedy” – or even a “wrong-com” – and has shared a first look at the characters, highlighting the significant age difference – nearly three decades – between Steve and Izzy.

The awards ceremony took place Tuesday evening, April 28th, at the Palais des Festivals after a week filled with film screenings and industry gatherings.
Several shows also received recognition: the Canadian series Empathie won the Europe 1 audience award, Roosa Söderholm was named best performer for the Finnish sports drama Guts, and the Spanish film I Always Sometimes took home the award for best screenplay, credited to writers Marta Bassols, Marta Loza, and Almudena Monzú.

Meera Walker is well-known for appearing in popular TV series like The Split, Spooks, Last Tango in Halifax, Unforgotten, and Annika.
Joining Clement and Margalith in the new series is actor Joel Fry, who audiences will recognize from popular comedies like W1A, Plebs, and Our Flag Means Death.
Alice and Steve will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on 8 June 2026.
