The new Prime Video crime series featuring Nicole Kidman is quickly becoming a hit with viewers worldwide. This success follows the announcement that a second season is already being planned.
As of April 28, 2026, the TV series Scarpetta has climbed to number 4 on Prime Video’s global list of most-watched shows, according to data from FlixPatrol. This indicates consistent viewer interest in the series. Globally, the show averages a ranking of 5.5, and is currently the #3 most popular show in the United States. Scarpetta, based on the novels by Patricia Cornwell, stars Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist who solves crimes using her expertise.
Scarpetta’s Global Chart Presence Comes Amix Mixed Reviews From Critics & Audiences
The new series begins with Dr. Scarpetta returning to Virginia to take her old job. She soon discovers a complex web of new alliances and old resentments as she investigates each case. The cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Jamie Lee Curtis, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose, alongside Kidman.
Despite having a well-known cast, the movie hasn’t been well-received. It currently has a ‘Rotten’ rating of 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews from over 65 critics. Viewers are even less impressed, with only 43% of over 500 user reviews being positive.
While Scarpetta has some issues with its storytelling – it can feel disorganized at times – many viewers still find it enjoyable. Critics at Rotten Tomatoes note that the strong cast and intriguing mystery are enough to keep people watching and wanting to solve the case.
As a big fan of crime dramas, I’ve been following the reaction to Scarpetta, and it’s interesting to see that despite some mixed reviews, people are still watching! All eight episodes dropped on Prime Video on March 11th, and it quickly climbed the charts. To me, that proves the series has a compelling story that keeps viewers hooked, and it definitely seems worth continuing.
A New Season of Scarpetta Is Already On the Way
Prime Video is optimistic about the future of Scarpetta. Just days after the show started streaming, a second season was quickly greenlit and filming has already begun. Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman announced the renewal and start of production with a video posted on social media by Amazon MGM Studios. In the clip, Curtis playfully said, “L.F.G, you all know what that means.”
Although we don’t yet know when the new season of Scarpetta will premiere, fans have a lot of content to enjoy in the meantime. The TV series is based on the Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell, which began with Postmortem in the 1990s. There are currently twenty-nine Scarpetta books, with the latest, Sharp Force, published in 2025.
Scarpetta is now streaming on Prime Video.
