Since its launch just over a month ago, Crimson Desert received a lot of feedback from players and critics. Many pointed out things that could be improved. Fortunately, the developers were responsive and have already implemented a lot of those changes, bringing the game closer to its original ambitious vision.
Gamers can be pretty picky, and we’re already thinking about ways the game could be even better. It might seem like we’re never fully satisfied, but we have a new list of suggestions and improvements we think you’ll find reasonable – and likely agree with!
Curious? Good. Let’s get started!
1. Gear Transmog

You’ve likely found a lot of great armor for Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka, but ended up storing it instead of using it. This is probably because you’ve already upgraded your current armor set too much, or you really need the special abilities and stats it provides.
It’s really disappointing that we can’t change how our armor looks, honestly. As a Greymane player, I think fashion is a big deal for a lot of us, and in a game that lets you do so much else, it feels like this should have been an option from the beginning. It’s a missed opportunity, in my opinion.
2. More Dedicated Content for Damiane and Oongka

We’re pleased the developers expanded Damiane and Oongka’s roles with more content. However, each character currently only has one unique mission, and we need to add more to give them more substantial roles.
It would be great to explore Damiane’s connection to Demeniss further, or to learn more about Oongka’s experiences in Calphade after Greymane’s defeat by the Black Bears. We’d also appreciate some missions that explain how they obtained their Axiom abilities.
3. Better Companion Integration in Exploration

Following up on that idea, it would be great if Pywel treated Damiane and Oongka as individuals, not just helpers who happen to resemble Greymanes. Giving them unique conversations, interactions, playful banter, and even special ways to get around the world would make them feel like a more natural part of Pywel’s environment.
Oongka might be better at breaking through obstacles thanks to his sheer power, while Damiane could receive improvements to her stealth abilities. There are many ways the developers could enhance these two characters, and we’re excited to see them play a bigger role in the game going forward.
4. Boss Fight-Specific Camera Improvements

We noticed this problem even during our second look at the game, and it’s important to keep addressing it. Controlling the camera during boss battles is just as difficult as dodging the boss’s powerful attacks.
The targeting system can be unreliable, and players have to remember controls that are automatic in other games, which isn’t great. Hopefully, the developers will address these issues when they add boss re-battles to make those fights more enjoyable and less frustrating.
5. Better Wagon Controls

Wagon missions are frustrating because the wagons handle poorly while driving. It’s a shame, though, because trading goods is a great way to get more money for your camp, and it lets you assign fewer Greymanes to guard duty in Pywel, freeing them up for other missions.
You can temporarily move a few items with your horse to the trading post, but that’s just a quick fix. It’s much better to sell a full wagon of goods all at once instead of relying on that method.
6. Improve Tracking Missions

If you’ve spent a long time searching for an enemy, especially one that makes you run around in circles, you know how frustrating it can be. It’s even worse when that enemy is a tough boss that doesn’t stay put – they often have multiple stages, and after you lower their health once, they move again, forcing you to start the search all over.
Okay, so dying in this mission is super frustrating. Seriously, whether it’s from the little guys or the boss, you have to start the entire thing over! I think a lot of us agree that’s not fun, and it would be amazing if the developers added some checkpoints or better ways to navigate so we don’t lose all our progress when we mess up.
7. A Dynamic Rival System

Most bosses in the game will simply flee when they realize they’re losing. With one exception – a particularly memorable boss who returns for an optional fight much later on – we never encounter or learn about the fate of the bosses we defeat.
What if those powerful enemies don’t just disappear after losing to you? They might remember their defeat and come back for a rematch later. Or, they could gain status and power by defeating Kliff if you were to fall in battle. We might be hoping for a lot, but it would make the world of Pywel feel much more alive if these things happened.
8. Route Guidance to Custom Waypoints

Similar to how helpful it is with wagons, knowing which roads are best to take is important whether you’re walking or riding a horse. If the mini-map clearly showed the best routes, getting around Pywel would be much easier and faster, even with the recent map update.
9.Horse Auto-Follow

Not only does marking roads help you find your way, but letting your horse automatically follow them allows you to enjoy the scenery and even take pictures as you travel through Pywel.
We envision a gameplay experience where horses generally move at a regular pace, but players can take direct control for sprinting. We think this would create a good balance between a relaxed and more engaging style of play.
10. Regional Reputation and Consequences

Some players might disagree, but we appreciated how your reputation in a region decreased with each unlawful act. It created a compelling dynamic – a give and take – that reinforced Greymane’s goal of improving the land they settled.
Honestly, I think Pywel would feel so much more alive if my actions actually had lasting consequences beyond just earning Contribution points. They’ve already got shopkeepers turning me away when I’ve got a bounty – which is cool! – but I’d love to see that expanded. It would really make the world feel like it’s reacting to me and my choices, you know? More immersion, that’s what I’m saying!
11. Rethinking Boss Rewards in the Open World

Okay, so I’m saying this even though I’m currently using the Odeck Protector Set without actually beating the boss who drops it – but seriously, unique armor and weapons should not be found just lying around the open world. What’s the point of even trying a tough boss fight if you can just wander around and find the cool stuff they’re supposed to drop? It totally kills the motivation!
It’s great that players can earn powerful gear from final bosses, especially since there’s no guarantee you’ll get another chance to do so. However, finding a balance would make these unique items even more appealing.
12. Camp and Settlement Rebuilding

We really like Howling Hill, and moving the story to Pailune made sense for the plot. However, we believe the Greymane family deserves to be more than just tied to those two locations, especially since they’ve played such a key role in liberating so much of Pywel from other, less honorable groups.
It’d be really helpful if some of the freed areas could become bases for the Greymanes. These could serve as places to trade, restock on supplies, or just take a break when you’re out and about.
13. Separating Abyss Artifacts from Gear Upgrades

The game features three characters you can play, and they all have powerful abilities. Because of this, tying Abyss Artifacts to improving gear doesn’t make much sense. It unnecessarily restricts how many different character builds you can create and forces you to repeatedly farm for Artifacts if you want to improve characters you don’t use as often.
Faded Artifacts can help in the short term, but a permanent solution is really what’s needed.
14. Resource Tracking for Gear Upgrades

If you frequently upgrade your weapons and armor, you’ve probably noticed that each upgrade requires a lot of different materials. It can be tough to keep track of exactly how much of each item you need. While you can check your inventory, we believe we’ve found a more convenient solution.
It would be really helpful to have a feature where you can set a goal to collect specific resources, and the game would show their locations on your map. This would essentially create small quests to gather what you need for upgrades. This type of system has been successful in other games, and would be a great addition to this one.
15. A Mobile Base

It might be a long shot, but it seems odd the Greymanes haven’t established a traveling base in Pywel. While their current camp and house create a personal touch, that train in the Crimson Desert feels like it’s practically begging to be repurposed – almost like something out of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, where you take control of a mobile operation.
Having a mobile headquarters would be beneficial for the Greymanes and their efforts to improve Pywel, and it could also provide opportunities for trade.
That covers the features we’re hoping to see added to Crimson Desert in the future. The developers are working hard to make the game everything both they and the players envision, and some of these ideas are likely already being implemented. Others might be more challenging to achieve.
We’re still looking forward to having fun in Pywel, and we hope you are too!
